She never ran for President, so no one can ID her off the top of one's head.

You'd expect the paper's staff to check it before.

Well, people generally tend to assume that United States senators are male.

There was an article in the New York Times Digest that used an anecdote in which some staffer in the Senate chamber told then-senator Kelly Ayotte that the seats are for the senators.

I would be interested in knowing about the guy in the front with his back to the camera. He looks like he is probably important, but he doesn't get referenced even indirectly. Lazy reporting overall.

irony is that her lack of name ID will be boosted with stories about her lack of name ID (like the one where one person in the snow turned up for O'Malley)

Probably overthinking this but it DOES raise an interesting point of how hard it would be for Klobuchar (who has presidential ambitions) to win a Democratic primary. Sanders has had a following among the left since the 2000s -- and really among millennials as well, at least ever since Reddit became popular. Warren and Booker also have large followings, and Kamala Harris (or even Gilibrand) has the advantage of representing a big state. What do senators like Klobuchar, Sherrod Brown bring to the table?

Trust me, none of these people have a huge following.  90-95% of people in America have no clue who Warren, Booker, Harris or Gillibrand are.  Bernie didn't have a following either.  Most of his supporters had no clue who he is before he began running for president.  Our politicians are the invisible people.

Yeah, I agree.  Normal people don't know who Cory Booker is.  Just like normal people didn't know who Sanders was before he ran for prez in 2016, or who Romney or Huckabee were before 2008, or who almost any of the 2004 Dems were before they ran.  My *guess* is that Biden and Sanders will both probably opt out of running again in 2020 because of age, meaning that 2020 would be similar to 2004 in that the Democratic primary would be filled with people that regular voters had never heard of (or had only heard of in passing) before they ran for president.

Well...I don't think they look anything alike, but from behind, their hair definitely isn't similar. Brown's is curlier I think and Van Hollen is considerably grayer/blonder.

I think she'll be interested in running and she is very likeable compared to Elizabeth Warren and through a initial eye-test looks Presidential. I think Cory Booker looks the part, that has a lot to do with it. Because they are our representative around the world of what America is all about. I am no fan of Trump but he fits the part of certain Americans and that's why he got to where he is. Strange isn't it?

100% correct. I ran into Kamala Harris at Oakland Airport back on the 14th and I was the only one that recognized her (others realized who she was after I asked to take a picture with her). Even I wasn't completely sure until I introduced myself, because how often does one run into a US Senator at the airport? Haha.

Depends on which airport.  I lived in DC for two years back in the 2000s, and I think I might have seen Byron Dorgan at the airport there once.

Oh, and while not a US Senator, I was once on a flight to DC with George Stephanopoulos.  If you live there, then you may occasionally run into such people.
