I took this as:  I'm starting to get heat for looking like everything I do is calculated towards running in 2020... so I better lower the talk a bit.

Cory Booker, the Democrat that both progressives and Blue Dogs despise.

I don't think "progressives" and "blue dogs" combined make up a majority of the Democratic primary electorate.

They make up a heck of a lot more combined than any one other group by itself, and I still find the idea that Booker could gain enough support without lucking into a Hillary situation ("I'm NOT the socialist!") is laughable.

Eh it's really not that inconceivable but he's gonna have to work a LOT on repairing his reputation among progressives between now and 2019. His story and personality appeals very easily to millennials and he connects (frankly) much better with black voters in primary states than Harris.

Booker may actually be telling the truth (wow a democrat telling the truth... rare thing these days). He could have his eyes on a leadership position once Durbin leaves (probably) in 2020. Him being in the leadership could propel him into the national spotlight and prop up a future Presidential bid.

But then he's open to being president, no?

Anyway, Booker certainly seems interested, by his actions.  If he's not interested, then is it just a coincidence that he joined the Foreign Relations Committee this year (a common stepping stone to a presidential run)?  And why did he give an interview to a New Hampshire TV station earlier this month?  Why did he meet with both the Iowa and New Hampshire delegations at the DNC last year, and even gave an interview in which he said that he’d “fallen in love” with New Hampshire?  And is it just a coincidence that he did campaign events for Clinton last year in Iowa, New Hampshire, and South Carolina?

Well, a 2020 bid might not be his time and I think he recognizes it. He could be a 2024 candidate and he might win the Presidency. The enigma that is Cory Booker's POTUS ambitions that I don't think even Cory Booker knows.

At least as things stand now, 2020 seems like as good a time as any for him.  If he waits, then he risks getting overshadowed by other candidates in the future, and he could miss his chance.
