What makes Obama successful (in the primary) is that he was able to combine the insurgent/populist (aka Bernie Sander's) faction with the African American faction.

Had Sanders been able to sweep the states along the black belt, he would have beaten Clinton in the primary.

Who would be able to most replicate Obama in the primary?

2008:

Obama
Clinton

2016:

Clinton
Sanders

Call me nuts but probably Julian Castro if he has the right platform he could put together a rural white/young voter/Hispanic coalition just switch the South to the West

Though he's nowhere near a populist, I can see Booker actually holding his own among Millennials against a Warren or Sanders simply due to his youth and his Obama-like personality.

Is Booker actually a populist?

People keep comparing him to Obama, but he's more of a Clinton.

Hey he did go on food stamps to make a point of how it wasn't that great despite Fox News stereotypes so he does have ability to be a populist despite his Wall Street ties

Stop trying to replicate neoliberals without a long enough record to call them out on being a neoliberal.

I think people may be underestimating Castro's 2020 potential.  He would do well in NV-AZ-TX-FL-CA-NM.  I think even if Castro finishes 2nd in the Primary... he will definitely be the VP pick (which will put AZ  in play in 2020... and sure up Florida)

Better idea: Try and replicate Reagan's primary map against Bush Sr.

Booker or Kamala Harris. Maybe Warren as well though she wouldn't do as nearly as well in the South in a crowded primary.

Simply because he's Latino you think he'd be able to dominate the Hispanic demographic? Hispanics are much less likely to vote in s bloc than African Americans. Trump won nearly 30% of the Hispanic vote, this isn't African Americans voting 95-5
