i mean wtf is even the point of democrats

also hilarious - you could not find a group of Republicans with less correlation among one another. Maybe this is also a list of GOPers with the least amount of donations from big pharma?

Like if this will be an issue in 2020. Purists have to stop thinking that every vote in the Senate and House is meaningful.

If it's the "Bernie amendment", why is it called the Klobuchar amendment?

What is the argument against it, and why did the WA people vote against it? They're the only ones who really surprise me on the Democratic side.

Murray surprises me. Cantwell has always been to the right of her state.

Also props to Manchin and McCaskill for voting for this and not being generic moderate hero corporatists.

Has either been moderate on economic stuff in the past (I thought it was mostly just throwing bones to cultural conservatism ... without even being that socially conservative, to the extent that the two are different)?  I know Manchin "opposed" Obamacare, but he never had the chance to vote on it, TBF.

He supports a balanced budget amendment and seems to generally oppose tax increases.

This is crazy, how can they allow all sorts of fishes & vegetables to be imported but not branded drugs from Canada? If they want they can put as many technical & quality restrictions, but why discourage a ban.

Drugs prices would have gone down with the competition. I am very sad & disappointed about the 13 Democrats who switched. Even Manchin & McCaskill voted Aye.

I lost a lot of respect for Booker, but I knew he had his campaign guys. But both Washington Senators? A strong progressive state where Bernie swept. This is just sad!

One of the best things that happened is the Sandersforpresident in reddit is back up after it was shut down by mods - The place is buzzing & has around 200,000 to 250,000 odd members now.

That was the place pooling millions of dollars & making hundreds of thousands of calls every single day. People are mad & rightfully & there are many threads about a Dem primary for these 13 traitors & details of every single vote. Atleast the forum is educating people & keeping them involved. I don't think the primary calls will come to pass as Public memory is short & some of these are in purple states.

But at the very least these 13 people will have their Twitter, FB page filled with posts & they will received 1000's of emails & phonecalls to their staff. At the very least, some pressure should be exerted on these folks.

What the fück why do you bold your entire post. Not gonna read it like that.

Anyway, disappointing that this good amendment doesn't get a majority because of Big Pharma senators on both sides of the aisle.

Why is it being a bernie amendment relevant? How do we know there wouldn't be significant negative consequences to the amendment? How do we know the Dems voting against it didn't just think that it would keep the bill from passing? How do we know it was even well written? Can we be sure the Rs voting for it weren't trying to sabotauge the bills passage? And Booker shouldn't be singled out here. Some of the votes against this make it clear that there are some pretty legit arguments against it. I wouldn't be so quick to condemn those who say no because muh big pharma.

BTW both washington senators are free trade liberals.

Copied from Reddit

Here is what the rest received from Pharma only:

Bennett - $396k
Booker - $385k
Cantwell - Nothing under pharma but #3 contributor is "Lobbyists" with $446k
Carper - $225k
Casey - $470k
Coons - $229k
Donnelly - $245k
Heinrich - $150k
Heitkamp - $69k
Menendez - $296k
Murray - $477k (WA - Surprise!!!)
Tester - $135k
Warner - $168k

All of these guys get a good chunk of their campaign funding directly from pharma and thats not including lobbyists(could be anything I believe), Health services, health professionals, Insurance, and others that could all be in a position to lose with this amendment.

Just because the healthcare industry would lose on it doesn't mean those voting against it were bought. I would like to hear the arguments against it.

Pretty much bipartisan consensus in NJ that any bill that negatively impacts pharma would be shot down. Pharma (and healthcare more broadly) is basically most of our economy (J&J, Merck, Becton Dickinson, Quest are all headquartered here, Novartis, Pfizer, GSK all have large offices in the state).

Possibly the Republicans most likely to come out in opposition to Trump in the future which will be an odd mix of libertarian leaning types like Paul and Lee, "establishment" types like Portman and neocons and Trump's former primary rivals like Graham and Rubio and Cruz.

Heinrich and the Washington senators surprised me. Weird to see Sanders, Cruz, and McCain all on the same side of something. Powerful shame that this got struck down.

It seems pretty obvious they were bought off. What argument is there to vote against this other then we don't want to lower drug prices? Booker 2020 is dead even before it started.

Pharmacucks.

I'm really disappointed in Tester, though.  I thought he was one of the good guys.

"Free trade" means you can't import prescription drugs from Canada? LOL!
