Yes, there were several other choices, but which of the main two would you have chosen?

Well, that isn't entirely true considering the result of the election, no?

Voting for the communist won't result in the greatest decline of standard of living, and lower life expectancy which happened in IRL. Also won't result is a Russian oligarchy and putinism.

The Communists, as they would be overthrown in a year or two by a group no worse than Putin.

I mean, at least that was as bad as it got in Russia after the fall of Communism. I can easily see it having gotten a lot worse, especially with the likes of Rutskoy and Khasbulatov in charge. And let's not forget that at the time, polling showed public opinion 51-30 in favor of Yeltsin's use of military force.

Hard to say. on the one hand Zyuganov would not been such a disaster like Yeltsin. On the other hand his victory would keep communism a viable force in Russian politics.

Voted Yeltsin, Zyuganov is the better man, but it's better in the long term some non communist candidate would take over from him.

Does it matter? The entire thing was rigged anyway.

I would choose Gorbachev, the only remotely decent leader Russia has ever had.

Hindsight says the commie. Probably would have said Yeltsin at the time.

The Communist. Yeltsinite neoliberalism paved the way for someone like Putin to come to power.

A cyanide pill.

On a serious note, even if the commies end up preventing a further decline in quality of life in Russia, its not guaranteed that they would maintain a Democratic system, leading to the recreation of the USSR under Communist hardliners.
