He has to do something with the Dreamers and pass immigration reform. Politically, the GOP can't rely on whites indefinitely for their political coalition given how many Democratic white voters there are.

Trump recognizes political reality, which is why immigration reform will be coming down the pipeline after the crackdown on the illegals. This is his way of setting that up. I know President Tweet-A-Thon doesn't think much through but on immigration, he definitely has a strategy.

LOL, he's going to break nearly every campaign promise, and his dipshlt supporters will shamelessly pivot to support it.  We're literally witnessing idol worship.

Yeah, we're going to work something out. We'll teach them Spanish and help them find jobs in Mexico.

His supporters don't actually know what they want, in a concrete sense, beyond some sort of nationalistic identity and a sense of "being protected." I don't think they've thought through what they want from the Trump administration, so the making and breaking of promises doesn't matter to them.

Santender, does this describe you?  Some vague pride in being White and suspicion of people who are different and the rest is up to Trump?

The red meat was never about immigration. It was a signal about assertion of a nationalistic cultural identity. Only a few hard core base ideologues actually care about this with a great intensity. The vast majority will accept deportations as a sign they're being listened to and swallow immigration reform wholesale afterwards.

On the flip side, I get the feeling Sandernistas have very definite policy goals and ideas they want implemented.

Unfortunately for you, it looks like your leader might have an ounce more compassion than you.

Interesting: @JohnCornyn signals he's open to legislation to protect DACA Dreamers, after Trump's shift.

Great! Just why I voted for him. I promised he would deport many, many less than Obama ever did. Trump doesn't disappoint.

I'd extend the same offer I'd extend all illegal immigrants in the United States who have no criminal record and can pass a citizenship test: permanent legal residency with most of the rights and benefits of American citizenship while permanently barring them from actual citizenship and voting rights. Any children born to them on American soil would receive citizenship, of course.

They'd pay taxes, serve in the military, be eligible to participate in Social Security, Medicare, etc, and so on. They just symbolically can't vote. If they truly are coming here wanting a better life and wanting to contribute to the nation and assimilate, than they'd accept this offer.

Nah, that's a different show. It's not even on the same network as The Cabinet Apprentice.

The One Sole Shoe on Twitter summed it up great:

I'd feel like such a cuck if I'd voted Trump in the primary right now

I wouldn't mind making a deal for the "Dreamers". Not because it would be "too expensive" to deport them, not because the United States' economy or culture really needs them, but because it would be too difficult politically to get rid or them, and because compromising on that issue would give a stronger hand when it comes to limiting further immigration.

The problem is though, Trump has shown no signs of actually wanting to limit further immigration either.

We can economically integrate the people already here. It will be difficult but it's possible as long as we don't let anymore people in. That's the thing, we gotta not let anymore people in.

It's the right thing to do, but it is still a broken promise, evidence of the  recklessness of Donald Trump as a campaigner.

The Hispanic cultures are already nations in our nation, and they may be doing as much assimilation of non-Hispanics into their cultures as the Anglo cultures are assimilating Hispanics.
