Well, if he ran and lost to Reynolds, at least he could be replaced by someone not so extreme in the House.

How would he fair against a strong Democratic contender if he somehow managed to pull of a primary upset in 2018?

Probably badly. Question is, do Democrats have a strong contender? Their bench is mostly state senators at this point.

There's that youngish woman whose name is hard to pronounce. And Loebsack but I wouldn't want him to run for anything but House.

Politics1 lists the following as possibilities at this time:

Steve King (R) - Congressman
Kim Reynolds (R) - Lt. Governor, Ex-State Sen. & Ex-County Treasurer
Chaz Allen (D) - State Sen., Ex-Newton Mayor & Welding Contractor
Liz Mathis (D) - State Sen. & Ex-TV News Anchor
Andy McGuire (D) - State Democratic Chair, Physician, Health Care Executive & '06 Lt.Gov. Candidate
Janet Petersen (D) - State Sen. & Ex-State Rep.

Not sure who the woman with the funny name would be. am sure this list will expand shortly.

Anesa Kajtazovich? If she were running a decade ago she would look promising, but Iowa is trending away from Democrats quickly. I think the winner of the Republican primary (probably Reynolds) will win the general.

Why does King always seem interested in anything Reynolds is looking at running for? Do they have a feud or something?
