I’m generally not one for these sorts of tactics, but even if it backfired, the impact would be less pronounced because of the number of folks who already voted. Is it a better long term trade off?

If they can still til after the election yes.  But stalling it a week obviously won't make a difference.

Schumer already tried to adjourn the Senate, it was tabled and they needed 60 votes
