Interesting. Ben Sasse, the Last Best Lieutenant of the Conservative Idiot Brigade has targetted Cordray. Props to you TD for doing an awesome job so far!

This was by far the best timeline I have ever read and one of the most realistic futures for this country.

TD, it looks like you've been right the whole time, just off by 3 or 4 years.

I'll admit, I find the Democratic gains in the House back in 2018 to be really paltry. Personally I see them flipping at least 9 or 10 districts in a bad year, and more if they do well. I reckon Trump holds his base but white suburbanites don't turnout because they're largely disillusioned with Trump. This makes more districts go Democratic, especially in places like California. Issa will probably lose, for example, and Denham/Waters look a bit precarious too.

Perhaps Trump is Nixon +Carter and 2020 is the year of the realignment IRL?

Who's the Reagan figure? Al Franken?
Could be Sanders, but I caution you about trying to find an analogue to Reagan. History repeats in patterns, not in people.

TD, I have to ask, why would you write a timeline that's so pessimistic for conservatism?

The Republican Party is historically overextended in gubernatorial races and in statehouse races. I'd also argue they're overextended in the House, but to a lesser degree. Under this administration, I think there's a potential for monumental losses, greater than those suffered by the incumbent party in 1994 or 2010.

I'm still here. I tend to be on Discord a lot more than here. Apparently, instead of Azerbaijain, we're getting Ukraine.

I will say the GOP is not knocked out but Trump might be hitting the end of his rope.

Feel free to leave questions or topics you want me to address, if anything.
Your timeline has Trump resigning and leaving the political stage quietly. Do you think that's how the Ukraine scandal will unfold?

Trump's followers will be convinced that they have won, and indeed many of Trump's opponents will likely feel that Donald has carried the day as well.

But Trump will never feel like he's won. You have to remember, Trump has a palpable hatred of Barack Obama and everything he accomplished. Even if Trump wins a second term and gets off scot free, he won't feel like he's won until the people (as in, the chatters and the media class) proclaim that he is better than Obama. Until that day, and until he trashes Obamacare, Trump will never feel like a winner. He will carry that animus with him till the day he dies.

Very similar to Nixon's loathing and envy of JFK
