The Iraqi army with the exception of a small core of special ops is totally unprofessional and has poor coordination within itself. They don't have enough experience of handling logistics for a long drawn out offensive. So there is massive need for US support for the attack to be successful. Then there is the matter of coordinating with the Kurdish army.

ISIS won't let go of Mosul that easily because it's their last major holdout.

don't know if anyone cares but trump is lying about the attack and calls it a disaster.

The attack on Mosul is turning out to be a total disaster. We gave them months of notice. U.S. is looking so dumb. VOTE TRUMP and WIN AGAIN!

From what I have seen, the offensive is going much better than expected.

Reports now say that the coalition is inflicting heavy losses on ISIS now!

http://isis.liveuamap.com/

The grey frown face in the live map stands for enemy soldier deaths, which are around 800 to 900 now.

The CNN story says that ISIS forces are now decimated...

Wow. That's tremendous progress since last week. Unfortunately that probably just means ISIL has strategically retreated from the suburbs to fortify the city center.

Yeah, Iraqi forces are making good progress. If ISIS has withdrawn to the city itself, then Iraqi forces should be able to cut them off by swinging around the city to capture what appear to be mostly lightly occupied villages. I will say, resistance does not appear to be as fierce as predicted.
