this doesn't make any sense.

teachout was supposed to be down and in a harder position than clinton. (quite conservative CD, current office holder is a republican)

what are those strange teachout-trump-voters?

Even if you assume this poll is accurate, there wouldn't necessarily be Trump-Teachout voters. More like Undecided-Teachout and Trump-Undecided. Or Stein-Teachout, etc.

Obama did win this district by 6.2% so it should be pretty safe for her. Teachout running a populist campaign could be the factor.

Obama's 2012 campaign was no more "populist" (god I hate that term) than Hillary's current campaign.

Different year different campaign. Remember Obama was running against a guy that was perceived (Rightly so) as corrupt and is one of the most bland politicians I have ever seen. Also Obama has never been perceived as corrupt as Clinton, a lot of other nasty stuff but not corruption. Trump, as terrible and as Wall street friendly as he would be as president has fooled a lot of the public that he will fight for them bringing along a populist message, but to a far-right extreme.

I live in the district, it's extremely competitive and there are definitely a significant amount of "Other-Teachout" voters.
