Same poll shows Clinton up 9. This is Fisher vs. Portman Redux. Safe R.

Sad to see Ohio re-electing such a homophobic Senator.

What the hell? His son is openly gay, and Portman supports many LGBT rights.

Portman was the first incumbent Republican Senator to speak up in favor of gay marriage, fwiw.

Technically the second, but the first was Lincoln Chafee, so he doesn't quite count.

Out of all possible people, he says he is writing in Mike Pence for President. He obviously cares more about party loyalty or whatever than about the lives of LGBT Americans. It's hard to get more homophobic than that.

There are a lot of negative things to say about Portman, but he isn't a homophobe.

Anyway, +12 is a narrowing from +17, where Portman has been. It takes a campaign as bad as FitzGerald's to call something safe in Ohio, and while this is not quite that bad, it seems likely this will wind up looking more like the 2010 Gubernatorial race than the 2010 Senatorial one.

Can you possibly become any more hackish? Portman is literally the most pro-LGBT GOP senator.

Voting for Mike Pence=/=Anti-LGBT
Having gay son and supporting gay marriage=Pro-LGBT

Unless, of course, you better understand the term pro-LGBT than I, a gay person, do.

You do realize that the amount of people who actually vote based on LGBT stuff is pretty low, right?

Portman is going out of his way to support one the most notable homophobes in modern American politics. It's not like Pence is actually on the ballot for President, either; if he was, maybe Figueira would feel differently. Out of every politician in the United States to support, he chose Pence. Calling Portman a homophobe (or at least an enabler of homophobes) isn't too absurd.

Yes it is. I despise Pence and am no fan of Portman, but from his perspective, this is the leading member of the conservative movement right now. It's either him or Romney? Very minor. I find both to be the same - nauseating. Doesn't change my opinion of Portman

You can have your own opinion, but my opinion is that supporting Mike Pence out of all the possible options is very anti-LGBT, and negates any previous stances he had. I mean, if Pence were the nominee and he was supporting him as a "lesser evil" against Clinton, I'd be a little more forgiving, but he's not. Portman is writing his name in when he could write in literally anyone else. I hope someone asks him about this at one of the Senate debates.

I'm just going to ignore Wulfric's post because it has nothing to do with what I said.
