I guess Portman will be a blueprint for how to run a successful Republican senate campaign.  He should host some workshops in 2018.

it's a pretty easy model

- kiss up to big money doners anyway possible
- use the money you receive to carpet bomb your opponent into oblivion
- don't do anything drastic
- don't be a lunatic

pretty straightforward.

Those last two parts are really hard for today's Republicans.

Regarding NC, Ross is one of the few Democratic Senate candidates this year who isn't absolutely terrible. I'll probably still endorse Burr or Haugh because I don't want Democrats to win back the Senate, but Burr is one of my least favorite Republicans in the Senate and I would be fine with Ross winning. I've never liked Burr, he kind of represents everything wrong with the Republican Party (though McCain and Kirk are definitely worse than him).
Don't know too much about Burr, but I enthusiastically support him because it is really fun to say I #FeelTheBurr. Also I don't like Ross since she seems like she's part of the Bernie wing, and has come across as really soft on crime.

In 2004, George Voinovich won every county in his Senate reelection bid. That's the only time (post-WWII) any candidate has swept every county in Ohio. In terms of margin, I'm not sure which was bigger.

Kasich won by 30.6%. Voinovich won by 27.8%.

However, in 1994, Voinovich won 72% to 25%.

Looks like NC Dems are gonna get Burrned.

And this was the best shot since Bowles (admittedly he would've won if it weren't for Bush, it's possible for the same thing to happen again against Burr.)
