Wow, Strickland really blew this. I mean, I expected Portman to win, but I thought Strickland would at least make it respectable. This is embarrassing.

If Democrats want to win Ohio in the future, they need to make sure their candidates don't go around praising the death of SCOTUS justices: http://dailycaller.com/2016/08/10/strickland-scalias-death-happened-at-a-good-time-video/

He was already struggling, plus he has lots of bad baggage as governor, is very up in age, and Portman is a very talented campaigner. Though that stupid comment definitely did help Portman, it probably mean Portman wins by double digits instead of high single digits.

I'm of the conclusion that no Democrat was going to beat Portman. Strickland ran a decently incompetent campaign, sure, but Portman was going to bury his opponent no matter who it was going to be.

P.J. Sittenfeld and Tim Ryan (D-Ohio) won't have been able to beat Portman either.

If Dems want to win Senate races - chose strong candidates with progressive policies but also who have passion, charisma, can connect to people & are smart & won't make stupid statements like Grayson or about death of judges - I feel that Scalia was a disaster & very destructive guy but to be pleased at someone's death only to further your ideology is a very cheap comment.

Look at Feingold & Ross - Strong progressives endorsed by Bernie's our Revolution & look at how strong a campaign they are running!

I think Fetterman would have been a stronger candidate in PA but NV & OH are just not good enough. And I hope Dems learn their lesson & don't throw their support behind Strickland again next time. Look at how Sherrod Brown is doing - Why can't Dems find another Sherrod Brown!
