This act intends to prevent the issues that occurred prior to the previous House election where people were requesting to be called something other than their registered name on the ballot. A simple addition to the ballot allows for candidates to request a six word description which may be a 'nickname' or a slogan, while the name on the ballot of the candidate shall be the name that they registered with on the Atlas Forum. The "description" wouldn't be required should a candidate not request one.

The ballot would end up looking something like this:

ELECTION NAME

[  ] Candidate 1 of X
Description
Party

[  ] Candidate 2 of Y
Description
Party

[  ] Write-in:______________________________

Seems to add more confusion, to me.

I'm going to butt in here just to say that this sounds like something people would just abuse to write joke descriptions and nothing that's of real importance to the voters.

Instead it might help to require that ballots link to the profiles of candidates running.  (Occasionally it's hard for me for determine my ballot preferences since I tend to remember people better by avatar than by user or nickname.)

I offer the following amendment, to hopefully ensure candidates will have a harder time abusing this policy.

With no debate on this bill in the last 24 hours I motion for a final vote on the amended version of this bill.

Considering we have nearly a majority abstaining with 3 members left to vote, I feel like you guys should've tried to debate this more, just to figure out how to vote. Tongue

to be honest, I don't really care too much about it, seems like an optional thing and thus no major impact.

Their are only 8 members currently in the house one seat is vancant. I agree I am disappointed with the high amount of abstentions. It just isn't the type of issue people care about one way or the other.

It's just that - purely optional. It just prevents the issue of having people requesting to be called something else on the ballot for elections. They'll have their username as their primary name on the ballot; and they'll have up to six words of text below their name to use for a nickname, should they want to have that on there. It doesn't affect how anyone votes, just solves an issue that arose before the last House election.

By a vote of 4-0 and 4 not voting/abstaining. This passes to the Senate.
