Like any sane person, I support a two-state solution as the only reasonable resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. With that said, I feel it would be rash to out-and-out recognize Palestinian independence before a serious peace agreement has been adopted. Without Israeli cooperation, Palestinian statehood is meaningless; real progress in this arena depends upon the success of the peace process.

I recommend that the bill be amended as follows:

I won't support this bill in it's originality, but I would consider it with Truman's amendments

I'm happy to accept this amendment, although I'm slightly concerned about commitment to the security of Israel. I feel that it would be more appropriate for us to be neutral in this part of the world in order to encourage peace between Israel and Palestine, without us being on the same side as one of them.

At that moment I see it as best to not get involved politically in this dispute. Their is very little for Atlasia too gain from taking sides but instead we risk loosing significantly if we go against one of our allies.

Israel is one of our closest allies, and with the current hodge-podge mixture of Israeli-Arab territories, a two-state solution is unfeasible. As such, I cannot support this bill.

Out of curiosity, what would your preferred solution be? Do you support some kind of unified Israeli-Arab state, or do you think that the conflict cannot be resolved peacefully in the current climate?

Ideally, some sort of unified state with equal rights for Israelis and Palestinians. I'm of the opinion that breaking up countries almost always causes more harm than good and should be reserved as a last resort (see: post-Yugoslav Balkans, India/Pakistan wrt Kashmir, etc.).

The post-Yugoslav Balkans has been relatively stable. It was Milosevic that was the problem there; by declaring war on the constituent parts of Yugoslavia that declared independence (except Macedonia). Since he's gone, it's been stable.

I feel that the only way a unified Israeli/Palestinian state would work is to have a political structure similar to Northern Ireland. Although, I don't think it's for us to get involved in the internal political workings of other nations.

(forgot to vote on this, but I meant to so Abstain!)

By a vote of 4-1 and 4 not voting, this fails.
