What makes this especially absurd is that Donald Trump is not the kind of Republican that Connecticut would vote for. The voters who live in Connecticut are like the voters who live in the Philadelphia suburbs or the Denver suburbs or the DC suburbs of Maryland and northern Virginia, which are the areas where, by all accounts, Trump is under-performing relative to a typical Republican. Mitt Romney circa 2002 would be the kind of Republican who could plausibly be competitive in Connecticut - though even that would likely still be an uphill climb - not Trump.

Trump is just lazy (along with hundreds of other negative qualities). Why is he campaigning in Eastern PA and Maine all the time and now Connecticut? He wants to go home to Trump Tower to sleep.

He should campaign in New Jersey too. Oh wait, that's too close to Chris Christie.

He might get stuck in traffic on the bridge over from the City.....

Unless he chooses to fly in by helicopter.... maybe Christie could take the chopper over and pick Trump up from the top of the tower?

Might make for good photo-op visuals for both.

He must have some really good internal numbers for this state.... Wink

You wouldn't believe what they're finding there.

I think what we're seeing here and with the whole campaign is his standard MO.

He starts with lots of hype and bullsh**t, over-exaggerates how well things will go, and gets buy-in from suckers.

Then he runs things to benefit himself and his ego, responds to any problems with more lies and bullsh**t. If there aren't any challenges, maybe the people he's hired get things work. But if it does start to fail, he triples-down on he lies and BS, and starts using threats, strongarm tactics, and cheating.

When all else fails, he looks for loopholes where he can profit or at least escape. Sometimes he gets away with some loot, sometimes its a wash, sometimes he loses his shirt. But however it goes the lies and threats never stop, nor will he ever own up to what he did and what really happened.

It's been true of his business ventures, and his campaign is following the exact same path.

At this point he might as well decide to focus on Christmas.

I was running some computer-generated simulations on 270towin.com, and you'll never guess what just happened:

They just use polls, and the few CT polls we have show a close race (narrow Clinton lead.) Polling just sucks in some states (KY is another example.) This is why I don't buy NV being close just because a couple of polls show the race close there.

Trump won't win Connecticut, he'll make it closer due to some Jewish voters who like him.
Trump is NOT popular with most Jewish voters

I think this tweet this morning from Trump was telling...

Of course Trump uses rallies as his main way of getting his message out. I think he believes that if they media got the message out that he had a big enthusiastic crowd in a blue state it would counter the narrative that he is losing and has no path. In his mind perhaps this rally proves he has an alternative path through other blue states like CT and that is the real story the media should be telling and by not telling it (and by focusing instead the polls and how he is losing in the battleground states) the media is biased and corrupt.

It really does read like a naive person who has never really interacted with a political campaign before. It's kind of fascinating.

I would hardly call one visit to Connecticut, an hour or so drive from NYC in August a "focus" on Connecticut.

There are only so many times you can continue to visit over and over and over again. This side trip was no big deal. Who knows, it was likely also bundled with some sort of fundraiser. There's a lot of money in that state. If you need any evidence of that, Hillary! is holding a fundraiser there on Monday.

He's down 25 in NY and is only getting 55% of NY Republicans but he thinks he can sway CT? Did Katrina Pierson cook up this genius political strategy?

Where did Hillary Clinton campaign on Saturday? Answer. Nowhere.

She's taking weekends off for a bit.

If Trump wants to drive for an hour and hold a rally in as state close to his home, what difference does it make?

I might take some weekends off if I were that far ahead in the polls.
