Musk for America 2.2 - Debate Responses

Quote
You must be logged in to read this quote.

"I think if we bring an exciting approach based on the future, with common-sense solutions people can get behind, we can expand the party immensely. An ideology that supports people living their own lives and spending their own money, with a government treating people fairly and being responsible with taxpayer dollars, is actually something most people can get behind--we just need a fresh approach to tap into that appetite."

Quote

"The main issue that I'm concerned about--both in my private ventures and my newfound political career--is the future. A focus on increasing the probability that the future is good, and that has several sub-focuses. While things like criminal justice reform, a smart defense against terrorism without engaging in wasteful wars, and reforming the education system are crucially important topics, if I had to choose three I'd go with, in no particular order: a) balancing the budget to keep later generations from reaping the consequences of our debt, b) taking measures to curb climate change, and c) making sure that American democracy is alive and well, everyone gets representation in parliament, and everyone's constitutional rights are protected, so we never lose what makes America great."

Quote

"Not sure about the Jacksonians, but I think Independence can ally with several different parties. It all comes down to who has the best vision for the future, and with whom we can work together. The Progressives and Liberals share many of our social views, while the Conservatives and Nationalists share many of our economic views, and even the Jacksonians share our view that neither the left nor the right has all the answers."

Quote

"I've had success in the private sector, and I understand how to put together a team of good, intelligent, hard-working people who specialize in different areas. I don't think there's anything special career politicians have. I try to put in the extra effort in everything I do, and the only real difference I have with them is a new perspective on how to do things."

(Sorry I can't do full detail, I leave for college tomorrow, and I've been swamped)

John Kasich's schedule for Turn 2 is:

4 Days in New Hampshire
1 Day in Iowa
2 Days in Nevada

Each day will consist of three town hall events. On Sunday, Premier Kasich will go on This Week, to talk with George Stephanopoulos about fiscal responsibility, the national debt, and the federal budget, and how his successes both in the House of Commons in the 90s and as Premier of Ohio make him the best candidate for the job.

If I had to guess, I'd assume it's due to the misconception that the Progressive Party is nothing more than a fringe party that the Northeast and Northwest love for some reason. However, we are so much more than that.

If I am elected, I will focus on the issues I've focused on since I became MP for OH-13 in 1993. First, I will fight for economic policies that strengthen our middle class. We need to create jobs, rebuild American manufacturing, invest in our small businesses, and train workers for new opportunities in new industries.
Secondly, I will focus our foreign policy on advancing stability and prosperity here at home and abroad. This is not only tied to military actions, but includes foreign aid, development assistance, and support for universal human rights, as well as fighting the conditions that breed terrorism.
Thirdly, I will work to promote equal rights. From expanding economic opportunities for low-income Americans to opposing discrimination in every form, I will continue to fight and protect the civil rights and liberties of all citizens.

As disappointed as I am the Liberals didn't pick us in 2012, I'd like to form a coalition with them, as our policies are fairly close and we can push America in a better, more progressive direction. I'd also look into coalitions with Jacksonians and the Independents.

We see a key opportunity to expand our party this year. While I thank and respect MP Sanders for his work, we need new leadership to seek this opportunity, and I feel like I'm the one who can seize it and get us into the next government, and quite possibly even lead it.

Turn 3 - January 27 to February 2, 2016

Everyone ready for Iowa? Cheesy Here are the last pre-primary polls, along with a bit of strategy analysis for each candidate:

The Liberals

Nationwide - January 20

John Kerry - 27%
Hillary Clinton - 25%
Brian Schweitzer - 16%
Chris Murphy - 13%
Joe Kennedy - 7%
Undecided - 12%

Iowa - January 20

Brian Schweitzer - 27%
Hillary Clinton - 21%
Chris Murphy - 20%
John Kerry - 19%
Joe Kennedy - 7%
Undecided - 6%

New Hampshire - January 20

Joe Kennedy - 27%
Hillary Clinton - 25%
John Kerry - 20%
Chris Murphy - 13%
Brian Schweitzer - 10%
Undecided - 5%

While frontrunners John Kerry and Hillary Clinton still maintain convincing leads nationwide, their challengers are catching up, with Schweitzer holding his advantage in Iowa and Kennedy surging into the lead in New Hampshire. Meanwhile, however, the most profound change seen in the Liberal primary in recent days has perhaps been the surge of Chris Murphy, who has gained significantly more in national polling this week than any other candidate after an increase in campaign infrastructure.

The Conservatives

Nationwide - January 20

Cathy McMorris Rogers - 27%
Marco Rubio - 22%
Todd Young - 22%
John Kasich - 19%
Undecided - 10%

Iowa - January 20

Todd Young - 33%
Marco Rubio - 26%
John Kasich - 23%
Cathy McMorris Rogers - 13%
Undecided - 5%

New Hampshire - January 20

John Kasich - 28%
Cathy McMorris Rogers - 24%
Marco Rubio - 21%
Todd Young - 21%
Undecided - 6%

In the Conservative primary, McMorris Rogers has expanded upon her polling lead nationwide, allowing her to gain momentum both in the early primary state of New Hampshire and delegate-rich states that vote later in the primary. However, John Kasich has maintained his overall lead in New Hampshire, with Todd Young holding onto Iowa with an increased margin. Meanwhile, Marco Rubio has stabilized his position as a top contender across the board, remaining competitive in most states and so far appearing to be the only candidate who has never seen a last-place polling finish either nationwide or in one of the two early primary states.

The Nationalists

Nationwide - January 20

Ted Cruz - 34%
Pat Buchanan - 25%
Joni Ernst - 24%
Mike Lee - 4%
Undecided - 13%

Iowa - January 20

Joni Ernst - 48%
Ted Cruz - 32%
Pat Buchanan - 11%
Mike Lee - 1%
Undecided - 8%

New Hampshire - January 20

Ted Cruz - 41%
Pat Buchanan - 35%
Joni Ernst - 13%
Mike Lee - 2%
Undecided - 9%

While Ted Cruz remains the frontrunner both in New Hampshire and nationwide, Pat Buchanan has surged in recent days, increasing his national support by seven points and narrowing the margin in New Hampshire to a mere six points. Meanwhile, the withdrawals of Mike Crapo and Ralph Hall have allowed Joni Ernst to increase her lead in the state of Iowa, now boasting almost 50% of all support. The support of Mike Lee, on the other hand, is yet to be seen in full force, and while he could gain momentum, he has so far appeared not to have engaged in any major campaigning.

The Progressives

Nationwide - January 20

Bernie Sanders - 30%
Elizabeth Warren - 22%
Suzan DelBene - 21%
Sherrod Brown - 10%
Tulsi Gabbard - 9%
Undecided - 8%

Iowa - January 20

Elizabeth Warren - 24%
Tulsi Gabbard - 23%
Bernie Sanders - 22%
Suzan DelBene - 13%
Sherrod Brown - 10%
Undecided - 8%

New Hampshire - January 20

Bernie Sanders - 39%
Sherrod Brown - 21%
Elizabeth Warren - 16%
Suzan DelBene - 13%
Tulsi Gabbard - 5%
Undecided - 6%

In the Progressive primary, recent days have seen Elizabeth Warren gain significant momentum, now leading the polls in Iowa and catching up to Sanders nationwide. While the Sanders has maintained his advantage in national polling and still has an eighteen-point winning margin in New Hampshire, other candidates have also seen significant gains in recent days, with Suzan DelBene boasting a clear third-place finish in nationwide polling, Sherrod Brown holding second in New Hampshire, and Tulsi Gabbard essentially tied for first in the state of Iowa (Iowa will be really, really close).

The Jacksonians

Nationwide - January 20

Joe Manchin - 30%
Donald Trump - 25%
Jon Bel Edwards - 14%
Carte Goodwin - 13%
Jim Webb - 1%
Undecided - 17%

Iowa - January 20

Joe Manchin - 34%
Donald Trump - 27%
Jon Bel Edwards - 15%
Carte Goodwin - 13%
Jim Webb - 2%
Undecided - 9%

New Hampshire - January 20

Donald Trump - 36%
Joe Manchin - 29%
Jon Bel Edwards - 12%
Carte Goodwin - 10%
Jim Webb - 3%
Undecided - 12%

With Trump expanding upon his lead in New Hampshire and Manchin maintaining a significant advantage in Iowa, many view the Jacksonian primary race as the most competitive in the nation. While Manchin still has a lead nationwide, both Jon Bel Edwards and Carte Goodwin have recently seen their support expand, with Goodwin experiencing the largest consistent polling gains of any candidate across the board and many saying Edwards will be able to make a similar comeback in the next week. Meanwhile, Jim Webb's campaign seems to be mostly inactive, with the Virginia MP now only boasting 1% in nationwide polls.

The Independents

Nationwide - January 20

Rob Portman - 30%
Rand Paul - 24%
Elon Musk - 18%
Bill Weld - 18%
Undecided - 10%

Iowa - January 20

Rob Portman - 34%
Bill Weld - 18%
Rand Paul - 16%
Elon Musk - 16%
Undecided - 16%

New Hampshire - January 20

Elon Musk - 24%
Bill Weld - 22%
Rob Portman - 21%
Rand Paul - 18%
Undecided - 15%

With Rand Paul inching up in nationwide polling as Rob Portman maintains his lead, the Independence Party leadership primary appears to have become increasingly competitive in recent days. Portman still has an extremely strong lead in Iowa polling, but Musk and Weld are essentially tied for first in New Hampshire, indicating that all four candidates have a good chance of gaining momentum as the month of February begins.

Another set of quick reminders:

1. As I've been saying, the best strategy in this game is to build up a lead nationwide - not just in the early states - in order to build up a delegate advantage later in the game. I strongly recommend campaigning in some of the states that vote in April and May instead of just Iowa and New Hampshire, as doing so will increase your margins there exponentially and really come back to help you later in the game. I am keeping track of every time each player visits each state, so your work will definitely pay off if you build a national campaign early on.

2. If you were unable to post a schedule in the last turn, feel free to answer the debate questions this turn. Please do message me if work/school ever get in the way of posting your campaign materials; I'll make sure to do everything I can to keep things fair.

3. Considering we're still really early in the primary season, I'm going to hold most major endorsements (current/former party leaders, well-known MPs, etc.) until later in the game. If you don't get an endorsement you were seeking this turn, there is a chance I will give it to you a few turns down the road once the game begins to progress more.

Press Release: MCCAIN, GRAHAM ENDORSE MCMORRIS RODGERS:

Columbia, SC - Speaking at a campaign event in Columbia, South Carolina, former Conservative Leader and current Minister of Homeland Security John McCain and At-Large South Carolina MP Lindsey Graham offered a join endorsement of Cathy McMorris Rodgers for the Conservative Leadership, both describing her as a "problem-solver", capable of both broadening the Conservative Party's appeal to the voters while offering the chance of a firm, efficient Government capable of solving the largest issues affecting America.

Graham and McCain both emphasized the relevance of national security issues in the current time, stating that they saw McMorris Rodgers as the best choice to place due emphasis on this issue and in the ongoing struggle against terrorism and, particularly, ISIS in the Middle East. Both also expressed their concern over some of the latest policy proposals coming in the party debates, particularly the "dead man zones" and the three walls to be built across the Southern Border. The two MP stressed what they believed was a need for politicians to come up with workable, rational solutions to issues such as immigration.

On the other side, the Leadership Candidate thanked them for their endorsement, paying tribute to McCain's longstanding service in Parliament and his sense of duty, and Graham's committment to South Carolina along with his effective approach towards multi-party consensus. Both McCain and Graham are expected to join McMorris Rodgers on the campaign trail this week with events on New Hampshire, Nevada and South Carolina.

Press Release: SURPRISE CRAPO ENDORSEMENT WELCOMED BY MCMORRIS CAMP:

Charleston, SC - While campaigning in Charleston and before holding a joint rally with MP's John McCain and Lindsey Graham, the Conservative Leadership candidate currently leading in the polls, MP Cathy McMorris Rodgers welcomed the surprise announcement that Idaho At-Large MP Mike Crapo changing his registration to the Conservative Party and withdrawing his endorsement of the Nationalist Deputy Leader to endorse McMorris Rodgers instead.

She payed tribute to Mr. Crapo by saying: "I cannot begin to imagine the pain his family must be facing right now with the terrible news of his son's diagnosis. All my prayers are with Mike, his son and his family on these trying times, I hold the sincere hope that they will overcome this as best as possible." She then said: "I am very glad to welcome Mike to the Conservative Party. As a dedicated public servant who's been there for Idaho for a long time, as a man whose commitment to national security issues cannot be doubted, he will be a fantastic element to have in the party. Likewise, I sincerely thank him for his endorsement of my campaign to lead this party, and I hope this provides a chance for more voters to take a good look at this candidacy."

Finally, she said: "It is indeed a worrying development when the Deputy Leader of a Party can in all sincerity offer a proposal of three giant walls across our Southern border to serve as "kill-zones". The issue of illegal immigration is one that we need to tackle, and there are workable solutions to be found and promoted. But such an irresponsible, unrealistic stance is certainly not one of them."

Todd Young (3.1) - Endorsements

MP Cory Gardner of Colorado
"Todd Young is a principled conservative, standing up for common sense solution for all Americans. Our party needs a radical change. We shall turn the page and Todd Young is a fresh face, not a career politician, and he'll be able to change our party and the nation."

MP John Boozman of Arkansas
"Arkansas will play a major role this year and we should make sure that Todd Young will be the next Conservative leader. Our conservative people here in Arkansas and all across the nation want to say end once and for all at this participation in a coalition with Liberals and Todd will stand for that."

MPs John Cornyn and Micheal McCaul of Texas
"Todd Young is a Conservative that will stand up for more jobs, cut taxes, for protecting the right to life, for defeating ISIS. He'll work for securing our nation and his experience as a former Marine will help him."

MP Frank Guinta of New Hampshire
"The people of this great state want more New Hampshire in the federal government and less federal government in New Hampshire. The people of the Granite State want also a leader that stands on his values and that is able to work with others to get things done. New Hampshire can trust him on both things."

MP Scott Rigel of Virginia
"All Americans want to make our country more safe than now. As a former Marine, Todd Young knows how security and defense work and, thanks to his experience both personally and in the House, he'll make our country more safe."

MP Darell Issa of California
"I had the occasion of knowing well Todd Young during his years in the House and I can say that he has the right experience, enthusiasm and committment to this nation for serving as the next Conservative leader and to lead the nation. The people of California want someone able to work for getting real results and he's the right guy for doing that."
