No one else seems to be saying this, so I will. This coup is a terrible idea. It will end horribly. Whether or not Obama had any role in planning this, it will end poorly for America.

This is double or nothing for  Erdogan.  It will be just like Chavez in 2002.  If he beats this he will be stronger than ever.

Why are y'all thinking the US has anything to do with this ? I mean, the Turkish can surely organize their own coups without Murican involvement, as they have repeatedly shown before. If anything, military coup to restore civic order is a Turkish specialty !
Might one go so far as to say it is a Turkish Delight?

I just hope this doesn't turn bloody.

Is there any indication who's on the "Peace Council", or the name is all we know?

Recep Tayyip Erdogan, speaking to CNN-Turk through FaceTime, called the actions by the military "an attempt at an uprising by a minority within our armed forces."

For all of Erdogan's problems, the Kemalists were much worse to the Kurds.

Fights seem to be under way in both Istanbul and Ankara. https://twitter.com/BNONews Sure hope this doesn't turn into a bloodbath one way or the other, we got enough of these already...

There's at least one confirmed death already. Shots and explosions are ringing out all over place, so there will probably be more, unfortunately

Just heard that some military figures are beginning to take stands against the coup.

This is unsettling.

I hope Erdogan is permanently ousted and that Turkey returns to being a secular, pro-sanity state.

Does this imply Turkey was ever a "pro-sanity" state.

Seriously people if it's secularists behind this then the only people that will be bolstered is Isis, when the military decide to declare full on war with the Kurds and cause the whole area to implode. As it is it's likely Gulenists, so, err.

The military OPPOSES the current Kurdish war.

The military thinks Erdogan has been too soft on ISIS.

Nothing concrete but lots of reports of missiles being fired at buildings. This is getting unpleasant...

Apparently the leader of the Istanbul division of the army has come out against the coup. So it's possible Erdogan may be able to land in Istanbul now.

Really? I haven't seen any indicTion that the military has changed their decade old stance of wiping out Kurds en masse, but eh. Especially as the AKP has a huge electoral base amongst Kurds, and allies of the military are known to lynch Kurds in the Sw in this recent conflict.
