Stupid.
This can be a highly addictive drug. Young people doing this, slowly burn out their brains.
Many move on to "stronger" more dangerous drugs.
And it has a high amount of tar which damages lungs, causes heart disease and emphysema.
Just stupid to make this legal. Period.

Solid move, DNC. Let's hope the advocate total narcotic decriminalization in 8 years or so.

By young people, you mean children?  Most legalization advocates think the minimum age should be 18 or 21, consistent with alcohol.

Nope.

Actually, though marijuana has higher amounts of tar than tobacco, current research doesn't support the idea that it results in greater health risks.

The Democrats are morphing into a fiscally conservative + economic laissez faire + socially liberal political party before our very eyes.

While the GOP is morphing in the exact opposite direction.

Fiscally conservative? Maybe to a hardcore socialist, but they've moved to the left since the 90's. Anyone remember their platform from 1992 or 1996?

Yes, I mean children .... like 2 and 3 year olds ! (sarcasm).
I mean young people, like high school age and yes ... even 18 or 21 years old.
Do you know how many high school students smoke cigarettes these days ?

I knew a guy who started with marijuana, moved on to other drugs and is now DEAD (because of drugs and died in his early 40's).
I knew this person quite well for about 20 years.
Also, my neighbor next door (house) has a kid in their mid 20's, and he is 100% addicted to pot. Without exaggeration he smokes it all day and all night. He moved in with his parents about 4 years ago, and has never had a job, but we can smell the pot 24 hours a day for the last 4 years, EVERY F***ING DAY.

I has about 2 to 3 times more tar than cigs, and of course it does damage to your lungs.
You don't need a doctor or rocket scientist to tell you that.
Why do you think your body coughs .... it wants to eject the poison (bad stuff) you are trying to force into your body. It's a body's natural reaction to do what it can to keep it out of your lungs, and instead people force the poison inside.

Cigarettes?  Not many, from my experience.  We all moved on to weed.

Sorry for your friend, but that's not the weed's fault.

Glad you find young people who acquire addiction, get sick and/or die from pot, a funny matter.
And I had a hunch you were a pot addict.
Usually people like you are in denial, because it's better for you not to know and accept that it is bad for you.
My first job out of high school, I worked with a woman who smoked 2 packs of cigs every day. And she told me one day that all the talk that cigs caused cancer and made people sick was false.
She pointed to stupid sites on the internet (also).
She honestly believed this, because she did not want to mentally accept that it was damaging her body (and that eventually she would die from it).
Just disgusting DENIAL.

Yeah.  Science contradicts that.

WHAT IS TAR ?

'Tar' describes the particulate matter which, generated by burning tobacco, forms a component of cigarette smoke. Each particle is composed of a large variety of organic and inorganic chemicals consisting primarily of nitrogen, oxygen, hydrogen, carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, and a wide range of volatile and semi-volatile organic chemicals.

In its condensate form, tar is a sticky brown substance that is the main cause of lung and throat cancer in smokers. Tar can also cause unsightly yellow-brown stains on fingers and teeth.

WHERE DOES THE TAR GO ?

Not all of the tar remains permanently in your lungs. Some of the tar is exhaled when you breathe the smoke out, and some is coughed up. Tar that is absorbed by the lungs can cause lung cells to die. Cigarette smoke paralyses or destroys the ‘cilia’ - which are fine hairs that line your upper airways and help to protect against infection. When cilia are damaged, tar is able to penetrate further into your lungs, where it can do even more damage.

Immediate health effects from damage to your lungs include coughing and shortness of breath (or tightness in the chest). Damage to your lungs caused by smoking can lead to other complications such as emphysema.

Should be legalized nationwide. The war on drugs has turned our country into one of the most imprisoned on this planet.

Great. More stoners and potheads will rise because of this. Democrats need to be careful because they are looking like the party of potheads. I am not a fan of marijuana, but I don't mind people using it, but it will make this country become more dependent on government and more stupider. If I were a small business owner, I would NEVER hire anyone who uses marijuana. People who use marijuana should really be shunned from society in my opinion. Really.

I don't care if pot is a gateway drug. A far deadlier gateway drug is already legal - alcohol.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/wonk/wp/2016/01/06/the-real-gateway-drug-thats-everywhere-and-legal/

I don't use. I barely (and legally) drink. I strongly disapprove of pretty much any consciousness-altering substance use.

But any argument in favor of marijuana prohibition is deeply hypocritical if you don't also support alcohol prohibition.

Also I don't think we should critically destabilize Mexico and put thousands of racial minorities behind bars because of my own sense of prudishness.

I knew this person quite well for about 20 years.
Also, my neighbor next door (house) has a kid in their mid 20's, and he is 100% addicted to pot. Without exaggeration he smokes it all day and all night. Sad to say, but that probably has more to say about the kid than the substance. Marijuana has a psychologically addictive component, but it doesn't sound like he was a motivated go-getter beforehand.

This. Smoke is always gonna be bad for your lungs, and based on people I know, weed has a negative impact on your short-term memory. No one should be trying to make the case that normal marijuana is good for you. But alcohol arguably has a worse impact on your body yet its legal.

I'm alright with the rescheduling of marijuana to decriminalize it, but NO SMOKING signs need to apply to weed as well. People can smoke it in their homes, but I don't wanna see joints or bongs anywhere in public.

I guess the age limit should be 21, but I highly doubt that'll stop teenagers from waiting till adulthood. It's not like it stops teenage alcohol drinking.
