Can Trump actually win Ohio and Pennsylvania? These states have been hit hard by closed factories and lost jobs. Pennsylvania has coal and many reagan Democrats.  Think trump might win these states

Since this incredibly stupid term is rearing its ugly head again, some things need to be pointed out:

1-"Reagan Democrats" by and large were not blue collar union workers. For proof go look at the 1984 results in Western Pennsylvania or the West Virginia coalfield.
2-Most "Reagan Democrats" ceased to even be Democrats after that. They were mostly the white blue dog southerners.
3-Reagan was last in an election 32 years ago. The youngest people who voted for Reagan are going to be 50 years old. And these would be people who voted for him in his first election, not consistent Democratic voters prior to that.

Basically the actual Reagan Democrats are all either in retirement homes or dead today. They're not commuting to their stereotypical blue collar job listening to John Mellancamp and Bruce Springsteen along the way and there's no group of people or demographic today that could be accurately defined as even sharing the traits of "Reagan Democrats" who are an important swing demographic. The term is meaningless as applied to any 21st century election. You might as well talk about "LBJ Republicans". So no, Trump is not going to win any states on the strength of "Reagan Democrats", the few that remain might vote for him but they've been voting Republican for decades now already.

Can he win? Potentially, but it would be because circumstances changed significantly in his favor, or Hillary made a major mistake. The way things stand right now, I think Hillary will win Pennsylvania, and narrowly take Ohio. "Reagan Democrats" have not voted Democratic since the 70s.

In 1992 (I think the video is on Youtube) a majority of self-described Reagan Democrats voted for Clinton according to exit polls.

Penn will be won by Hillary, though by a small margin.
In Ohio, trump has a chance at it.

Pennsylvania? Doubt it. There may be a few more votes that he can squeeze out of the western part of the state, in spite of how much that area has already swung Republican, but everything I know says that he's going to underperform by enough in the Philly suburbs that, ultimately, Hillary should win statewide.

Ohio? More likely than PA, for sure, just because it is a more Republican state in general. But I think he could underperform in the Columbus suburbs the same way he likely will in the Philly suburbs.

Trump could win Ohio pretty easily, but he probably can't win Pennsylvania unless he somehow manages to fix his trainwreck of a campaign.

Trump can't win either unless he can get his act together.

Of course he can. He must continue to address the problems in these states (including unemployment of African-Americans). TRUMP must make it clear that he, not Hilldog, is the man who knows how to create jobs and renegotiate trade deals.
