According to his family, this guy has a history of violence and was never particularly religious. If radical Islam wasn't a thing, he'd likely just find something else to cling on to to justify this attack.

     Option 1. In civil society, we accept culpability for our own actions. We can point to encouraging or enabling factors, but he is ultimately the sole responsible party. He had the choice to respect human life and he instead chose to commit murder.

Even more than the killer himself?  That's neither sane nor normal.

Without a gun, he would've been weaponless. He would've been powerless. And all those people would be alive.
