A question that I don't believe I have seen on here. I am not yet, but I am considering it - can be a bit tough in the city - thankfully a bit less so in my own.

Yeah, just for self defense though. I've never pulled the trigger, and hopefully I never have to.

If you buy a gun for the purposes of self defence (something that doesn't really happen here, of course) and aren't 100% sure that you could use it against a fellow human then you're making yourself less, rather than more, secure. Same with a knife or any other form of weapon actually.

seriously?  That is a horribly bad idea.  Take that sh**t to the range and get familiar with it.  If Or forbid you ever need to use it, knowing how the damn thing works will be a huge benefit.  Knowing how it works in theory is great, but actually doing it is much more important.  You can understand how airplanes work, but you'd want to practice with a professional for a bit before going up by your lonesome.

Hoping you never have to use it isn't the same thing as thinking you might not be able to use it if the situation called for it. I can't imagine having any qualms about using deadly force if my life was at risk, but obviously it's impossible to know for sure until one is actually in the situation.

I've considered and looked into it and decided that it would be an expensive and time consuming investment which wouldn't really be worth it unless I was living in the middle of nowhere, in an area heavy with prowlers. I'm moderate on the gun issue though and wouldn't disparage anyone for choosing to own one.

I own a semi-auto Romanian AK-47 clone. It even came with a bayonet. No accidents.

No.  I have no particular interest in hunting and I live in an area where I don't feel the need for one as protection.  If I ever did take up hunting or target practice I'd have no problem getting a gun, and if my neighborhood got dangerous, I'd move.

Yes.  I was not until recently, but the violence in Chicago forced me to reconsider.  I would still supporting banning all guns, but until that point...

Right, so only the criminals will have them. Law Enforcement can't exactly apparate to you if you're being attacked, it takes a few minutes. By which time you may be dead.

No, nor will I ever likely purchase one. That being said, I still believe strongly in my neighbors right to self-defense if they so choose to own one or carry one.

Nope, but I have fired a gun at a biathlon range. Judging by how that went, it's probably better for everyone's safety if I don't exercise my 2nd amendment rights.

Owning a gun = acting tough?

I don't see anyone saying "and if you try to take them away from me, I will exercise my rights."
