let's assume DC will always be carried by Democrats...

With no third parties: What ticket combination(among both parties) could get a 50 state victory for Democrats?
for Republicans?

(not to opebo, no using Hillary Clinton for the 50 state victory Smiley )

I think he meant that all candidates have to be currently members of one of the two parties.

Bayh / Schweitzer vs. Guilani/ DeLay

Guilani gets killed in the south. DeLay kills him in more moderate areas. Schweitzer helps in the rockies.

Changed it to Schweitzer. The right is going to be pissed at Guilani and the moderates are going to be pissed at DeLay.

Democratic Sweep

Democrats nominate
Sen. Evan Bayh (IN) for President and Gov. Phil Bredesen (TN) for VP.
This ticket proves popular with many conservatives, most moderates and most liberals, and they sweep all 50 states.

Republicans nominate
Gov. Robert Taft (OH) for President and Singer/Actor Wayne Newton (NV) for VP.
Gov. Taft is very unpopular in his home state, and fails to carry it.  His unopoularity in his home state carries over to the other 49 states as well.  The Republicans thought they could attract votes with a celebrity VP candidate who could sing, but Wayne thought he could do his Las Vegas act during the VP debate, and although most Americans enjoyed it, they didn't think he had a grasp of the issues facing the country and the world, and became somewhat worried if he ever had to assume the office of President.

Republican Sweep

Republicans nominate
Sen. George Allen (VA) for President and Governor Mitt Romney (MA) for VP.
This ticket proves overwhelmingly popular with conservatives and moderates in all parts of the country, and they sweep all 50 states.

Democrats nominate
Actor/Activist Ed Asner (CA) for President and former Representative Dan Rostenkowski (IL), a former Chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, for VP.
Although the ticket proves popular with the radical liberal left, they fail to win any states.
What were the Democrats smoking at the convention?  Need I say more?
