eisenhower was called 'stupid'.  he wasnt a very good speaker.  he also enjoyed a fair amount of leisure time which led the dems to say he wasnt really in charge.

Oh, I thought you were talking about today. If you're not, your comment wasn't relevant to the thread, you know. Smiley

I'm sorry, but I looked at Richard's two posts, and the only thing I saw that was offensing was the "P-word."  An American might see it as an abbreviation; I wouldn't take it as bigoted, just like I wounldn't take "Anglo" as bigoted, though I'm sure some people would.

He has certainly stated that in the past he has an aversion to Muslims, and I personally can see an inferred distaste of a growth in Islam in Europe in his posts in that thread. He doesn't need to be offensive directly for him to be saying that it is a bad thing. We rarely get any proper discussion of what a growth in ethnic minorities would bring (assuming ad arguendo that such a growth does take place) - and to infer that its automatically going to be a bad thing without any proper reasoning is going to annoy people, and certainly provoke the "intolerant" line that we saw from MichaelZ.

I'm sorry, but I think MichaelZ over reacted a lot to the thread, at least to Richard's comments on it.

I must admit, I have sometimes contemplated leaving, at least temporarily, due to feeling sharply unwelcome after reading a giant barrage of blatantly anti-liberal or anti-Democrat comments.

Still, I don't think I'd make a big deal out of it if I did.  It's not like the culprits are going to stop what they're doing purely because someone gets fed up and leaves.  On the contrary, really; I know that at least some of them would be completely ecstatic if everyone who didn't agree with them (I'm looking at you, Mr. "Imagine a world without liberals!").  In a way, the thought of that fact makes me feel more like I want to stay purely so these guys can't get closer their dream world where nobody is there to oppose their opinions - a world which is, in my view, extremely unhealthy.

I can't stop those who feel differently about the thought of leaving, however.  It's never a pleasant thing to see, but there's not much that can be done, unfortunately.

I find myself posting and reading less due to the degradation of maturity we're having on the forum.    The number of insightful threads is becoming pathetic due to being swamped in the same silly crap again and again.   Perhaps I'm being hypocritical or at least foolish since I haven't made a thread in months, but this is just an observation.

In a couple days I'll be off to Central Europe for a month, so whatever.  I'll tell you guys if the rampant socialism mauls me in the street or something, hah. Wink
