A really funny thing happened today in Cincinnati. As in sure most of you know Rob Portman is the new US trade Rep. so his seat in the US Congress is open and there are a lot of republicans from Hamilton, Clermont, Brown and Adams County going for the spot. Hamilton County Commissioner Pat DeWine is running for the seat. The Hamilton County commissioners have been in charge of a riverfront Protect known locally as “The Banks” for half a decade now, and nothing has been done. It is supposed to be a giant riverfront shopping center, With a Mall, Movie theater, Hilton Hotel and countless other eateries and shops, very upscale. Well about a week ago Bill Butler and Rob Smyjunas gave over 100,000$ each to the DeWine for Congress campaign. Well this morning the Cincinnati Enquirer headline read Developers for Banks selected well guess what Bill Butler and Rob Smyjunas did for a living? They happened to be Real Estate Developers, and they just happened to get the biggest job in Ohio History this morning. So 72 hours before the most important election of Pat’s life he finally hold a press conference and gives the Banks job to someone, two of his biggest financial supporters. Mabey it is not a big deal at all, But it seems like one to me.

The results of the primary are in, and DeWine did not win. Former state rep Jean Schmidt won the crowded GOP primary and will face lawyer Paul Hackett in the special election in 6 weeks. The early analysis from The Enquirer credits the loss of DeWine to his lack of a base and the dominance of hard core voters in this special primary. They don't mention the developer deal.

Okay. Now put up a Paul Hackett sign.

You don't want to be winning every time. Smiley

Just curious.

Was any of the vote punishing the son for the father's actions?

Yeah, seeing that SUSA poll, I guess the father's name recognition didn't have much of a positive impact...and without anything else in his favour except the name and the bank account, DeWine was inevitably sunk.

I think if this was a November Election with more important stuff, DeWine would have won a solid victory. But in this case the only people that came out were people who deeply liked one candidate (Or disliked) and knew the Issues. So Name recognition would to almost nothing in this election, and Yea it looks like his RINO father did not help his image in the most GOP district of the state.
