I think he might have started the campaign with the intention to gain more coverage for himself and his businesses, but when he surged to the top of the polls soon after the announcement and stayed there, he became committed to winning.

Trump is awesome.

No.  I think everyone is a little shellshocked but now I'm desensitized.  Partially, anyway.  I'm still caught a offguard by his speeches, such as his victory speech last night.  He went on for half an hour about himself.  Every candidate I've ever seen as such moments makes (empty) promises and reminds us of his legislative agenda.  All Trump talked about was winning.  And Clinton was as screechy as ever.

Either way, I think I'll try to avoid watching any television news for the four-year period beginning in January.

Didn't one of his early supporters say he just wanted to be a flavor of the month and get publicity?

I think he took himself more seriously than anyone at the time, but no.

Yes,

He is deluded by his own self greatness. Of course he knew he would win.

The other issue is the quality of actual governance vs actual results for people who live in the USA.

Trump saw a country that was upset and could not listen to the cloacal ventilators anymore.

Australia has similar themes developing as the USA. We have lost our manufacturing to Asia etc.

No. I think Donald Trump started out as a protest candidate who just wanted media attention. I think he expected to a flavor of the month. Now I think that he actually wants the presidency because he actually has a chance.

Yes, his ego is so huge that he never doubted it, especially because he constantly brags about his poll numbers.

Well, Melania told him that if he was gonna run, he was gonna win. Very smart woman, will make a great first lady.

I don't think he expected to win, but I think he wanted to win. I don't think he was in it for the attention.

I have no idea whether Trump's ego is for show or is legit. I certainly think it's within the realm of possibility that he thought he would win.

This.

I am not even sure that he would know what to do with the Presidency if he ever got it (which thankfully he won't).
