What a joker.

http://thehill.com/blogs/ballot-box/presidential-races/277440-kasich-were-starting-to-vet-potential-running-mates

Republican presidential candidate John Kasich said Sunday his campaign is looking at potential running mates for if he secures the nomination.

"Well, we have some old hands now who are beginning to do that," he said on CBS's "Face The Nation."

"You know, these things come quickly. And you don't want to have yourself in a position where you have to pick somebody out of a hat. So I have some skilled hands who are beginning now to take a look and figure out who would really fit. And, you know, it's just starting, so there isn't a lot to report."

He said it's possible he'll announce his vice presidential pick by June, before the Republican National Convention in July.

In the event of a contested convention, regardless of chance, it IS still wise to name your pick ahead of time.

Kasich has all the right to start vetting VPs.

Rather like the way JFK raised his profile by unsuccessfully running for Vice President at the contested Democratic convention of 1956, I feel like being Kasich's VP choice has much more upside than downside. It's free profile-raising without actually really upsetting anyone (unless Kasich wins, that is).

JFK ran for VP behind the frontrunner.

Nobody will admit to being Kasich's VP.

Some lowkey congressman MAY try for VP with him. Maybe like a total no-name, maybe Butch Otter.

Well, he should be able to start vetting people who endorsed him.

Bentley's too scandal plagued. Rubio may be nice, but I say Sandoval. Hispanic, Swing state, Moderate, Nevada. Otter is a safer choice, or a congressman.

Sandoval might be too similar to Kasich (moderate governor of a swing state), plus he's pro-choice. Rubio checks the first two boxes, is conservative, and has Congressional experience. Altogether, Kasich/Rubio would be a very balanced ticket.

Isn't Kasich's entire campaign an expensive VP-vetting exercise?

It's not like we have ever had an improperly vetted VP candidate from the GOP.

Quick Vetting:

His top picks IMO:
1. Scott Brown - Pro-Choice, carpetbagger, electoral failure (he only won in 2010 because he was running against the woman who probably couldn't beat a serial killer in an election)
2. Brian Sandoval Pro-Choice, considered by Obama for SCOTUS, from the same wing of the party
3. Joni Ernst Is Hillary Bruce Braley now? Too conservative for the country.
4. Cory Gardner Good pick. Just be aware that Hillary isn't going to be a one-issue candidate like Udall was.
5. Tim Scott Fine.
6. Chris Christie Bridgegate. Failed presidential campaign. Endorsed TRUMP.
7. Christine Todd Whitman Pro-Choice, and has been pro-gays for a long time
8. Marco Rubio http://www.nytimes.com/elections/results/florida . Enough said.
