The "ch" in Kasich should be pronounced the same way it is pronounced in "chair".

The Croats have a unique letter - "ć" - which is read like the "ch" in "chair".
And since Kasich is partly a Croat, if you write his last name in Croatian it would be "Kasić".

The "-ić" is significant because it is very characteristic for Croatian last names , more than 3/4 of Croatian last names end in "-ić".

What Kasich's family probably did is when they moved to America - they turned the "-ić" into "-ich" to make it easier for people to pronounce, since the english alphabet doesn't have "ć".

I'm a Croat and I did the same with the "-ić" in my last name when I lived in New Zealand.


So basicaly - the way Trump pronounces Kasich is historically accurate.

Look, it's really all Kasich's fault.  Do you see Trump running around with an unpronounceable name like Drumpf? No, they had the decency to change it something American like Trump.  Do you think Nuta Kotlyarenko could have become tailor to the stars?  No, of course not, but Nudie Cohn could and did.  Now, if Kasich had had the common sense and courtesy to change his name to something like....Rich, he could have still used some letters of his original last name while sounding American.  Plus, the name John Rich sounds successful whereas John Kasich just sounds unpronounceable.  Total Kasichfail.
