What's the most likely ulterior motive for merkley endorsing sanders?

Once Sanders looses, Hillary will rally the Bernie folks behind her by picking the only senator who endorsed her opponent?

Or Merkley wants to be the Sanders of 2020/2024. Someone new is going to have to carry the mantle due to his age, and there are no other obvious choices.

We can keep kicking the age can along with Russ Feingold.

I watched Merkley on MSNBC discussing his endorsement of Sanders.  He's very impressive on TV, well-spoken, makes clear arguments, and appears knowledgable.  He appears like a guy who could actually BE President if Sanders or Clinton choke on a cookie midway through his 1st term.  He also looks like a guy who'll help as VP, not so much as in bringing in a state or demographic that is shaky as with being a generally positive reflection on the top guy/gal.

J-Dizzle would be a baller President.  He's right up there with Feingold and Warren (who is getting old) for my favorite Senators/potential Presidents.

Wouldn't Wyden be a more powerful speaker? IMO, Wyden is the best Democrat in Washington or Oregon. He's a lot like Franken in his pros, though not as charismatic, but he also has the upside of never being a comedian. In other words, a more libertarian Al Franken with less pros and cons.

Merkley seems a bit less libertarian-sequel than Wyden. Can anyone confirm this?

No one believes HRC's anti-TPP stance is true. Putting Wyden on the ticket would confirm it and enrage progressives.

Wyden will not be on the ticket.
