Party stances? I mean they're somewhat easy to tell but I'm not sure for the populists.
Also gib backstory
I didn't think up much of a backstory, just say the U.S. adopted a system a while back similar to France, with both a president and a prime minister.

And yeah, I think all the stances are fairly obvious except the Populists (more of a big tent populist party that doesn't fit in exactly on the political spectrum, although it's fairly center-left economically, pro-civil liberties, protectionist, and non-interventionist, attracts both urban and rural voters and popular in the west and midwest).

Utah's surprisingly woke when it comes to LGBT issues.

This is the 1984 election from my alternate presidents list that I posted. Basically just an America skewed a lot further to the left, with a mostly dead right-wing movement.

2016 under my leftist America scenario
If only this were real.  Are there party descriptions anywhere?
Socialist is a catch-all party of the left, think 70s/80s Bernie for the “median”. Was a little further left in the past.

Live Free or Die is libertarian with a heavy focus on conspiracy theories. Broad coalition of support from militia members to keyboard warriors.

Solidarity is mostly made up of who would be “weird” Democrats (and a few Republicans) irl. Traficant’s ideology is a good benchmark. More socially conservative than most other parties but also fairly big tent.

National Democratic is the closest thing to a generic Democratic Party. It formed from the New Democratic and National Liberal parties which provided more moderate alternatives to
the ruling Progressive Labor Party (which gradually lost a lot of its influence and endorsed Sanders in this election).

The Conservatives are just a rump Republican Party which generally survived at about 10% after the Vito Marcantonio presidency but bled a lot of support to Jones this time around.

Communists are pretty self-explanatory.

US Power is alt right which hurts its chances for similar reasons that (until recently) the Spanish/Portuguese far right never really rose up. Essentially this whole timeline takes place after a successful fascist coup during the Great Depression which doesn’t last long but leaves a lasting impact on society.

True Left is the left wing equivalent of Live Free or Die but doesn’t do as well.

Open Government is also pretty self-explanatory, supporting more transparency and less corruption. Fairly technocratic.

Women’s Equality is just what it sounds like. Progressive with a focus on social issues and gender equality.

American Delta is the same as its real life equivalent. Same with Libertarian.
