Which do you think is going to be closer to the end popular vote - this or the Bloomberg poll you loved?

I'd really like to know what sort of candidate and policies those 7% of voters want.

The 7% is among all Republicans.

10% of Trump supporters think that Cruz is a liberal, and 24% a moderate.

Among Cruz supporters, 3% think is a liberal, 10% a moderate, and 81% a conservative.

It appears that many Trump supporters reason this way:

I like Trump, therefore I don't like Cruz.
a) I'm a conservative, therefore Trump is a conservative, and Cruz is a moderate or liberal.
b) I'm a moderate, therefore Trump is a moderate, and Cruz is a conservative or liberal.

That is, support for Trump is not ideologically based, and voters assign ideology to conform to their own ideological identity, which may be weak in the first place.

Support for Cruz is likely to be ideological. Even if Cruz was not running, they would identify as conservative.

Kasich supporters may overidentify as moderate in a poll in which lots of political questions are asked. The use of moderate may be relative to Cruz. Kasich and Cruz supporters both characterize Cruz as a conservative, with only 10% or 12% saying he is moderate, and 2% or 3% liberal.
