This hypocrisy is ridiculous.

Note: I am not asking about rights here, just what you would do if you ran a WalMart.

I vote Yes/No.

If I ran a WalMart I'd burn it to the ground.

But if you're talking about simply my own store: Yes/No

How the hell is that hypocritical? The mags are a moral issue. The guns are not.

The danger of a gun is greater than that of a magazine. I guess it's not purely hypocritical though.

The danger of a knife is greater than the danger of letting people walk around naked in the store. Should Wal-Mart either adopt the second policy, or refuse to sell knives?

The danger of a knife is greater than that of a magazine.  Wal-mart does not sell things based on how "dangerous" they are.

WalMart is run by a bunch of christian intolerants, and most of the customers are the same type.  Please, everyone, abuse their 90 day return policy - to the max!

Do you think that actually hurts the stock holders and owners, or the minimum wage student they have working there that interacts with the annoying customers?

It is impossible to hurt that minimum wage person (she is typically an adult), as she cannot fall any lower.

Why is this hypocrisy?  Walmart should sell whatever it wants to sell.

And we should all buy it and return it 90 days later.  Never, ever keep anything from that junk-shop.  (I'm saying this only partly as a political statement - the stuff does usually break after just a little over the 90 days anyway).

I fail to see how the two subjects could possibly be related.

I actually agree with you on this one, more or less.

As long as they don't possess a de facto monoply on an area (which they may in some - but that's really a different issue), they have a right to sell whatever they want as long as it is allowed by law.

The arguement is pretty much a non-sequitur, as your example shows.

The two points should be seperated into different questions:

Should they sell guns (as long as they follow the local laws on gun sales, and keep the merchendise properly secured)

Should they sell Playboy: (It's their choice really - appeasing prudes vs. meeting a market demand for softcore porn).

If you don't like them and their policies, don't shop there. (and personally, I don't like them or many of their policies - or their abuse of the welfare state to justify paying their employees crap - but those are all seperate issues, etc.)

Personally, I would go with no/no as well. Of course they have the right to sell what they want, but that's just my personal opinion.

WalMart should sell whatever they want to sell.

even child porn and nuclear weapons?

I'd say yes/yes to the 1st question, the one I asked, I'm not so sure about...

Agreed, though I really wouldn't care if they sold both.
