As a Democrat, I'm thanking Donald Trump for giving us this kind of fodder.

Call me overly optimistic, but I get the feeling Trump might just be the end of McCain.

Wow. Kirkpatrick is really begging for that beating she's about to receive, isn't she?

The weakest ad of this cycle. Kirkpatrick must be desperate.

I wonder why she decided to run against McCain. She could have kept her seat.

Out of all the "lean Republican" senate races this year....Arizona is probably one of the Republican's most vulnerable.

I've been telling this for the last year and a half: safe McCain.

At the time, the supreme court was considering a case challenging the constutionality of the AZ independent redistricting commission. Knowing that the R legislature would never allow her to keep her seat, she announced her run for the senate, doing it while the case was still being considered to avoid being attacked as an opportunist. Ultimately the independent commission was allowed to stay but, again, Kirkpatrick couldn't switch over to the house race without being attacked as an opportunist.

Arizona has only been fool's gold because Democrats have been unable to make up the registration and turnout gap with Latino voters. If there was a cycle to make the proper investments to remedy this, it will be this one, with Trump at the top of the GOP ticket.

Allison LG had some good ads against He-Who-Blocketh-Justice-Right-Now back in '14...then she ran out of steam and lost.

Great start, but she's gotta run the whole time like this, and odds are it'll still be like how The Turtle won despite Kentucky being supposedly vulnerable.

True, but to be fair let's remember:
1. It was a horrible year for Democrats
2. It was a freaking Kentucky

I'd have to agree. In a neutral year, that race would have only been Tilt R.

I still see her as a serious underdog against someone who's been a Senate Minority Leader after all (as well as an expert survivor of close elections).

Why would she have wanted to switch back when she's going to beat McCain?

Counters:

1. No one knew that at the time, conventional wisdom (I mean sans Pryor getting Blanched) was out the window the whole season until the GOP used ISIS and Ebola thanks to extremely low approval ratings in Congress, with Roberts and McConnell being the worst.

2. And this is freaking Arizona, the state that's voted Democratic once since Truman, (and that one time was the Conservative New Democrat...not LBJ) the state with Joe Apraio, the state Jan Brewer put up a questionable immigration law.

The guy looks like he's being held hostage (no pun intended) in every clip where he's being asking if he'll support Trump.

She also had some terrible ads, like the trap shooting one. Not to mention she tried to run from Obama in the dumbest way possible by refusing to admit she voted for him, which scared away the DSCC and other out-of-state money. McConnell was much more effective: Coal. Guns. Freedom. Grimes completely deserved to lose.

I don't think it's particularly effective. Voters know that party candidates feel constrained to go through the motions of supporting the party nominee. I am sure that McCain will indeed be distancing himself from Trump in due course.

Arizona may have only voted for a Democrat once since Truman, but it also is the only state with a disproportionately high number of Democrats in the House. Also, that Democrat, as noted was Clinton, not LBJ. Hillary could make good on AZ on Bill's name and heightened Latinx turnout against Trump. Will that be enough for coattails to Kirkpatrick? Who knows.

I personally wish Sinema had gone for it instead.
