Depends, you wouldn't do that on pasta itself...that's more wrong than pineapple on a pizza, which itself is a travesty.

However, on a meatball sandwich or marinara cheesesteak, it's doable.

So...Other I guess?

It really sounds nasty, but I don't like mayonnaise all that well either. Still, with tomato sauce? Not for me. Instead of mayo, I'd add a splash of burgundy.

I am not a latchkey kid. My parents don't approve and my siblings don't approve of my eclectic taste in sauce combos, but they don't stop me.

What do you call the sauce that goes on spaghetti?

after some Googling, I see it's supposed to just be called "tomato sauce"....but that's not how it's done in most of the US.  "Spaghetti sauce" is what we call the sauce you put on spaghetti.

And isn't "tomato sauce" just an ingredient in spaghetti sauce?  You can buy can's of tomato sauce, but I didn't think anybody just poured that over spaghetti nooodles.

I don't know if it actually tastes horrible, but it sounds awful. I doubt I'd even want to sample it.

I've always seen that called tomato paste.

Still had to be fixed.

Or 'sauce' would have to be replaced by accumulations of 'odd chemical stuffs that turns into something red'.

Hey, seems you're making the path to sanity yourself.

Yeah, you would indeed have to put a few other ingredients to have something fine on pastas, but a few paned onions and/or fresh persil/basilique can be enough for instance, and sometimes, hmm, why not even raw, salt/pepper can make the stuff.

I personally buy can of full peeled tomatoes (thank you to the wonderful Chinese agriculture!) and accomodate that with different kinds of stuffs according to inspiration and what's available.

We call those "whole peeled".

The wife does make her own spaghetti sauce, and it is indeed made from tomato sauce (and a hundred other things).  But it's called spaghetti sauce when it's done....because it's the sauce that goes on spaghetti.

I've never seen the first of those three things. How is it substantially different from tomato paste?

The viscosity.  Paste is, well, a paste, sauce is much more...ummmm....saucey Smiley

edit-sauce is like ketchup/catsup (would need it's own thread for that hijack of this hijack), paste is very thick.

Yeah.

From my last Mc Do experience I came back with a sample of that, reminded me that all ketchups you can have would taste more or less the same (mainly consitensy/density would vary), and I wonder how on Earth I could have several times bought that thing in the past, and that is not tomato sauce. That is an other 'red stuff'.
