Oh, I just thought of another:

"A vote for [candidate person actually agrees with] is really a vote for [candidate of speaker's boogeyman party]!" (e.g. "a vote for Johnson is a vote for Hillary!")

THIS.  By liking or supporting Mark Kirk or Susan Collins, I am simply not de facto supporting Ted Cruz or the crazier House Republicans simply by association, and if people think I am, whatever odds are they're not the type of person I'd care what they think of me anyway (i.e., an idiot or an a*shole).

Yes you are. Supporting a Republican (or Democrat) in the legislature is de facto support for their parties leadership due to the majoritarian system the way Leaders/Speakers are elected and the chambers have "control". The personality politics people like Collins or Heitkamp play is an elborate ruse that ultimately doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things.

Oh wait I've thought of the worst one yet: group X (women, non-property owning men, Egyptians, Black South Africans, poor people in general) 'aren't ready for democracy yet' because they aren't educated (as if educated people make better decisions in democracies, lol). Baaaaaaaaaarf
