FF!!!! Easily my favorite author. The Shining is one of the best books I've ever read.

FF

and good on us (at least so far).  For some reason I assumed we would hate on him because he's not "high art" or something.

Incredible author, but something about him personally rubs me the wrong way. Probably a hangup on my end, though. Voted FF.

I'm always annoyed when I hear someone dismissing him as a mere horror author, given incredible psychological and social realism in his writings.

If by realism you mean the tired stock bullies, the alcoholic, the Family Guy liberal whining about religion, the stock Christian fundamentalist then yes, I can agree with that.

No, he's a guy that misses as much as he hits, sometimes a whole book is just wrong (The Tommyknockers, the short-story collection that The Langoliers came from, the one with the crazy car), sometimes a whole book is great (The Shining, Misery, Shawshank Redemption, Stand By Me, Green Mile)...and sometimes a book is that awkward as heck middle (I'm looking at you, 1000 page book called IT)

I didn't say every one of his works is "great". It's near impossible when you deal with prolific authors.

Literally the only good thing that came from IT was Tim Curry's face in a clown makeup.

It works a lot better when you're 11-14 than it does as an adult.  You could probably say that about a lot of King's work.

I'm not a fan of the Gunslinger series, but they've cast the two main guys for the movies.

edit-FYI, if you don't know (I didn't), Idris Elba is a black man.  Not that I care one way or the other, just that it's interesting.

..and I just read that McConaughey is probably going to play Flagg in the new Stand series of movies too (I AM interested in that, The Stand is my favorite book not written by Steinbeck.)  And since Flagg = "the Man in Black" (and a bunch of other King "Big Bads") that is pretty cool.  Plus I think he can do the role(s) well.
