The once-powerful United Mine Workers union long established a progressive streak in West Virginia politics. That is over. West Virginia has just become Religion and cultural values may be all that is left to define political life in West Virginia.

So not only are West Virginians racist, they are sexist as well?
So not only are West Virginians racist, they are sexist as well?

By this reasoning, should Bernie Sanders lose West Virginia, the state is antisemitic as well.

No -- simply a state with even less support of progressive causes than Alabama (blacks) or Utah (non-Mormons).

WV might be Trump's best state in the country. UT, ID will slip as many Mormons have high education levels and see right through Trump's circus.
.

Also: investments in gambling casinos (dens of iniquity -- lots of smoking and drinking as well as gambling, all  un-Mormon; and multiple divorces. Can a right-wing Republican violate Mormon sensibilities sensibilities and lose in Utah? Sure.

You guys have to remember that Trump is the perfect candidate for this state. The political views of the typical West Virginian match the political views of Donald Trump. WV is the epitome of a right-wing populist state. Hillary is going to do so bad here. Trump might actually do better than Romney here (despite doing worse than Romney nationwide).

If Donald Trump wins a 2016 Republican pickup of the presidency, approximately every state will shift Republicans.

West Virginia carried for Mitt Romney, in 2012, by about 27 percentage points. It was 30 points more Republican than the nation. This poll result would comport with a Republican pickup of the presidency.

An even shift of 2.68% R would do that.  Really it might take more should Virginia still trend D against the national trend (which existing polls suggest).
