Italian food is, at least in my opinion, vastly overrated.  Almost as much as French food.  The stuff is fine, don't get me wrong, I'm not saying either is bad.  It's just that a cheeseburger tastes better than anything with pasta in it.  Sorry, they just do.

Anyway, HR.  If you want real Italian, go find an Italian and then find his or her mother.  If the stereotypes are true (and since it's always Italians telling me this I have to assume it's true), Italian mothers won't let you go away hungry and they all cook perfectly.  And the old men cook too, but only some of them.  If you just want Italian, grab a pie or find a Fizoli's....Fazzoli's?  Fazoli's?  Whatever it's called.  It's just as good and you don't have to get out of your car.

The food quality is too poor to justify the cost and the service is generally terrible.  It's a white trash "fancy" restaurant.

Have only been there once, primarily because my vegetarian aunt refuses to go there.  Once a long time ago, she ordered vegetarian ravioli there and got beef, and it made her sick.

But endless salad and breadsticks sounds pretty darn good to me.

Awful.

Like the Panda Express of Italian food, except expensive and you have to wait to get it.

I am giving it a Freedom Restaurant because of the breadsticks and all you can eat soup and salad. Olive Garden serves a certain purpose in America: providing affordable Italian food to the masses. It is far from the best Italian food you could get; there are a number of places I would rather go including to my fiancee's, but that doesn't make OG a bad restaurant. You wouldn't say McDonalds is a horrible restaurant because it is far from the best burger you ever have; it serves its purpose. So keep dishing out those breadsticks and soup OG!

Freedom restaurant.  They serve decent food at decent prices and they cater to American tastes rather than trying to be awful and purist.

All purism does is result in food that is more expensive and less flavorful... "BUT THAT TOMATO SAUCE IS HOMEMADE!!!" yeah.. it's watery and flavorless you talentless fool.  Just cuz your last name is Cuccinmyguccianelliani doesn't mean you can cook!

That said.. the little Italian place in my hometown where the bruscetta has sun-dried tomatoes and caramelized onions and marinated olives on the bread topped with parmesan cheese and broiled... is so much better than the purist bruscetta you get at the "super d duper authenticano" place.

So it's Panda Express if it were Italian and not fast food?

THE BEST.

Olive Gardens were non-existent in Ontario, so every time my family went to the States we'd make sure to eat there. Just heavenly.

Now that I'm in Vancouver things are slightly different: There's an Olive Garden in Langley, BC. It will take two hours to get there by public transit, but me and my boyfriend are thinking of making the trip sometime anyway. Maybe for my birthday next weekend. It's so worth it.

Very bad.  Mediocre Italian food for ridiculously high prices.  There are so many good Italian restaurants around I have no idea why anyone ever goes there.

I haven't ever really been a frequent visitor there but I did like it when I went - Especially this white chocolate cheesecake they have for awhile.

Just another mediocre, acceptable restaurant if I had to say.

Good for catered lasagna to events/corporate meals type things. otherwise the actual entrees suck and the breadsticks are mediocre  Fazollis has the best breadsticks.

If there was a national  Italian fast food chain , there wouldn't be so many of them. I kind of wish there was so OG could step it up and make the wait worth it.

Not great but it's not really the same niche as real Italian food so I can't be too exercised about it.

Unless things are way different in the Upper Midwest from how they are here, you're describing the way Italian food tastes in Japan, not in the United States.
