Just read on Politics1 that conservative groups are urging former Representative and Fox News host John Kasich to run against Senator Mike DeWine in 2006 Senate Primary. DeWine was one of the "Gang of 14 Traitors" that compromised to avoid a filibuster of Priscilla Owens.

DeWine is hopefully safe. If he's not, the seat is in danger.

And DeWine is a solid conservative who will back the nuclear option if we need it to get a Supreme Court pick through.

If the Republicans eat their young, they will turn into exactly what the Democrats are now.

The White House specifically recruited DeWine and Lindsay Graham to work with the moderates to get a favorable compromise for Republicans, because they were genuinely afraid of losing the nuclear option vote.  DeWine got exactly what the White House wanted, and there is no way he will not get the full support of the party leaders.

Um, wouldn't it be only 7 "traitors"?

And why are you rabid folks invading Delaware?

DeWine will be fine, even if Kasich does run.  How many Ohioans really care about Senate procedure?

Kasich has some mighty big skeletons in his closet, fwiw.

If DeWine runs, he'll win.  I really don't see anyone who could beat him from either side.

One of the big skeletons is that he and Gary Condit were extremely close and "good" friends in public and private, especially.

Remember the type of stuff Gary Condit and Chandra Levy were in.  Tongue

For reasons even I can't fathom, I quite like Kasich.  However, he has little-to-no chance in the primary.

DeWine has very little to worry about.

You're kidding, right?  That's the worst dirt they have on him?  Agreed with Philip, like Kasich and DeWine.  I think Ohio Republicans should aim for Voinovich more.

As has already been said, attacking your own party members is why the Democrats are failing badly right now.

Also, I'm getting a little sick of primary battles against incumbent senators, for the reason that they refuse to blindly toe the party line.  We elected DeWine and Voinovich to serve Ohio, not just the Republican Party.

I don't have a problem with senators who don't blindly toe the party line, notice I'm not voicing displeasure with Graham, DeWine, or McCain, but Voinovich is too liberal for my taste.  What's the point of having a Republican there if he won't even vote for tax cuts?
