Not just PPP, the pollster were also wrong about a lot of other races. KY-Gov 2015, KY-Sen 2014, NY-Gov 2014, LA-Gov 2015

PPP released a memo with their last poll were they were presenting the different scenarios that could materialize due to last minute strategic voting. There they said that a Cruz win and a Rubio surge were not out of the realm of possibility.
Unfortunately everyone focuses on the top-line numbers.
