The Note briefly reports that "Phil Burress and other conservatives in Ohio will today discuss plans to recruit a more conservative candidate to run against Sen. Mike DeWine in next year's Senate primary." It will be interesting to see if anger over the Fillibuster deal lasts, and results in real primary challenges. The other Republicans up for re-election in 2006 who joined the deal are Lincon Chafee and Olympia Snowe. I doubt Snowe will be challanged, and Chafee is likely to be challenged by Laffey.

I love Republicans. Every candidate has to be far, far right or they throw a fit.

If there's a Dem filibuster, we go nuclear and he has no problems. If there isn't a Dem filibuster, he has no problems, because conservatives aren't upset.

I don't see the issue.

Umm, the agreement allows Democrats to fillibuster. In particular, it allows them to  fillibuster 2 of Bush's nominees without justification.

That's odd, I was about to post something about this.  It doesn't really surprise me to be honest.  In fact, it wouldn't surprise me if the GOP launch primaries against all of their senators in the 'Gang'.

Probably the best (read: worst for everybody else) candidate would be Ken Blackwell.  He's inexplicably popular, despite being a total nutjob.  However, he won't run because he currently has his sights set on the governor's mansion.....

Whoever they eventually pick will probably only dent DeWine a little.  He's still too popular to lose.

And no Supreme Court nominees without 'extraordinary circumstances.'

If at any time two of the seven 'moderate Reps' decide the Democrats have broken their word, the votes to go nuclear are there.

Originalists are not going to quality as 'extraordinary,' and if one is blocked, Bush will just withdraw him, and appoint another one, and if it happens again, another one, and by then, the Senate will go nuclear.
