If its a high profile member of congress, it could be the catalyst trump needs to open the proverbial floodgates of 'establishment' support for his campaign. This could be the first of many, especially if Cruz continues to fall.

A lot of people out there agree with Trump in the Republican camp but probably dont want to stick their necks out for him in case he falls on his face and they end up looking like fools. The closer he gets to seeming inevitable, the more momentum he gains and the more difficult it becomes to uproot his support.

Things really are crazy this year. The unpopular Trump (at least with the average voter, not just Republicans) is getting support from unpopular right wingers like Palin and Falwell and not long ago Trump was a liberal. He still says that Iraq was a mistake, which was overwhelming supported by Republicans and a few Democrats at the time. Meanwhile the Goldwater conservatives at National Review are uniting against him, but may not be able to stop him.
The only hope of the anti Trump forces could well be Cruz, who would more than likely do worse in the general that Trump. Oh well, Trump won't win the general election.
