I used to think "Gina works the diner all day" from Bon Jovi's Livin On A Prayer was "Gina wants to die in her old age".

"There's a bathroom on the right."  (CCR - There's a bad moon on the rise.)

"Keep it common law."  (KC & the Sunshine Band - Keep it comin' love.)

"Love is a fantasy."  (Pat Benatar - Love is a battlefield.)

Some people understand Hold on! instead of Oh Lord! when listening to Phil Collin's In the air tonight[/i]. But even I can't understand why.

The F.B.I. spent several months investigating "Louie Louie" by the Kingsmen looking for hidden smut.

Did they hit pay dirt?
I'm one of them. Also, I used to think John Stewart's foreboding 1979 hit "Midnight Wind" went:

There are dreams that fly in the midnight wind /
Soap suds fly in the midnight wind /
Birds do fly in the midnight wind

I must have thought a lot of different stuff "flew" in that midnight wind.

To draw a line from music to politics:

"I was in a porno with Joe Biden screaming no." 😂 😂 😂

My mom used to think Madonna was saying "last night I dreamt of some bagels" instead of "I dreamt of San Pedro." So thanks to my mom I can't unhear "some bagels" either whenever I hear "La Isla Bonita."

In "Rolling in the Deep," I always hear the last chorus as:

You had my heart inside of your hand,
But you played it
You played it
You played it too deep (instead of "to the beat")

I thought it still fit with the song, though, because it sounded like her lover was too intense or too dependent and that's why they didn't have it all.

In "I'd Really Love To See You Tonight," I hear both "But there's a warm wind blowing, the stars are out" and "But there's a warm wind blowing the stars around." (The second one doesn't make a lot of sense, but I think it's a neat image.) I've seen that line listed both ways on different lyrics sites, and I'm still not sure what the right one is.

In "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road," I always thought he sang:

You can't lock me in your penthouse;
I'm going back to my cloud.

instead of

You can't plant me in your penthouse;
I'm going back to my plough.

In Germany, those misheard lyrics songs are commonly referred to as "Agathe Bauer" songs.
The simple reason for that phenomenon was an incident during a radio show a long time ago; an old lady wished for that one famous song where a woman screams "Agathe Bauer". As the radio hosts didn't know which song the lady was talking about, she started to sum the melody, et voilà, thanks to the host's expertise the caller got what she ordered... 😆 😂 🤣

When I was a child/early teen I thought that We Are The Champions by Queen said "we'll keep our fighting through the air" instead of "till the end" and I was puzzled as to what fighting through the air might have meant.

A misheard song lyric that has become somewhat of a cliché in Italy is misunderstanding Vasco Rossi's song Standing Ovation as "stendi il rovescio" (basically "stretch your backfist")

I recently learned that the Masked Singer theme consists of actual words. I thought - like basically other fan of that show - that those voices merely sang: "Uuuh ah uh uh uh uh uh!!!", instead of the actual lyrics: "Who are you? Who? Who? Who? Who?" Who knew? 🤷 The real lyrics actually even make sense. 😅

Dr Dre and Snoop Dogg

Still

I always thought he was singing:

"In the home of drive by's and asthmatics"

Turns out it was actually:

"In the home of drive by's and ak-matics"

The chorus of 'Mo' Money Mo' Problems' by Puff Daddy and Notorious B.I.G. I hear:

I bother no one
They walk from me, it's like
All the booty comes upon
All the booty is me
