I oppose the motion.

I call on the Acting President to immediately open a vote on the presidency and a third reading on the the tax bill. Otherwise the Social Liberals will be open to the removal of this government and the appointment of Mr. Cranberry as PM with a Socialist minority government. This would be a regrettable course of action, but I believe that it is a serious abuse of the people's mandate to prevent a vote on the presidency and allow Mr. Simfan to remain in power as acting president for almost a month.

I would like to inform the honourable member that of both of these measures has already been taken. Indeed, the honourable member protested at the call for the division over the third reading just earlier today. Furthermore, as a private members bill, the motion cannot be introduced until the Tax Bill has been voted upon.

I commend the Speaker on his actions.

In that case, I would be fine with delaying a vote on the tax bill and amendment until after the proposed Christmas recess.
