Excluding trolls, sock accounts, ironic support, etc....

This forum is well educated, could we do it?

Dave Leip could serve as an elder statesman type of role who only shows up for ceremonial reasons (President of Germany) and we could fill the spots in the legislature.

I think we would do pretty well at specific areas and perhaps international relations but I feel like our lack of diversity in our backgrounds and interests (relatively) might make certain tasks more difficult.

Overall, I would lean yes since you all seem like nice people.

Peewee Herman's talking furniture could run it better than the current chuckleheads.

If our posters of age could run America better than Congress, then they'd be in Congress...then again, we have one poster in office and another one who probably will be come next November, so maybe we are catching up.

I know the one currently in office, but who's running next year?

On the Atlasian scale of 1(yes) to 10(no) we're a solid 4.25. Voted yes.

I don't know.  Congress sucks a lot of ass, but I don't think we have 540 people here that are competent enough to do the job.

No, don't be silly. At best we'd be terribly incompetent at operating the levers of power due to us all being complete newbies. At worst, we'd run the country into the ground, as we'd start doing the standard Atlas practice of legislating based on the perfect ideals in our heads instead of on the existing situation.

None of us (besides people like torie and muon) would nearly be able to handle all of the procedural/technical stuff necessary to actually pass bills and run a nation, but from a policy perspective, we would probably be much more genuine/open to debate and less affected by special interests.

Well are lack of knowledge/industry experience would lead us to becoming virtually dependent on lobbyists. Have you ever tried reading Dodd-Frank?

Our posters just need to get as obsessive at reading complex legal texts, as they are at drawing maps, and all will be good. Our posters may have unusual personality traits, as a generalization, but they tend to be quite smart. I could give seminars. Tongue

Muon2 as part of our endless back and forth on crafting a model code to exorcise gerrymandering, get into it sometimes when it comes to crafting legal text, if and when we ever come to an agreement on something. It's really rather tricky to get it right, particularly when a host of fine distinctions are in play as to carving out a host of different categories.

Oakvale made a good point on AAD that the average atlas poster in office would look like Ted Heath: becoming an incompent loser hated by everyone, making compromises that somehow manage to combine the negatives of all sides, constantly running away to indulge in tedious hobbies like sailing or making maps, defending paedos 'because they're funny' and finally being beaten by a woman and spending the rest of their lives crying about it.

Either that or KRudd. Either way: not a good period in office.

Absolutely not.

Half of you would be trying to Frank Underwood your way to greatness and the other half of us would get pushed in front of Metro trains.
