Just to comment, I think the biggest counterfactual history WTF of the past 10 years are "Kemp would have done better than Dole" and "Lamar Alexander would have beat Clinton".

Kemp would have been an easy target for the Clinton people, because of all the books that he had had ghost written that were filled with wacky ideas like going back to the gold standard.  If Alexander had run, I would give him Tennessee and maybe Kentucky, but other than that, it would not have made any difference.
