This is why it will be difficult for Cruz to beat Trump, even if Cruz wins Iowa. Trump just has so much support nationally, and the rest of the field remains split. Even if and when some of the less viable candidates drop out, some of their support will go to Trump as well as to Cruz. If he needs to, Trump has the resources to flood the airwaves nationally heading in to Super Tuesday.

So objectively, just by the numbers, at this point Trump is winning the GOP race by more than Hillary is winning the Dem race. Impressive.

Nothing about that poll is similar to the current scenario... YouGov... November... 2 point lead among a divided field versus literally a 27 point margin united behind Trump. Why bother posting it?

No; polls are a snapshot of the present. That YouGov poll was probably an accurate reflection of how the race stood at that time.

Let's just hope those corn-addled evangelical retards in Iowa get with the rest of the nation and support TRUMP!

It is 99.894% official.

Every candidate besides Donald Trump, Cruz, and Rubio are not the 2016 nominee. Rubio, has an extremely EXTREMELY small path to the nomination. Cruz has a hell of a battle to fight. I'm going to sit back with my popcorn and watch this play out, no reason to get flustered anymore.

I see, Gingrich too blew a 27 point lead. Fascinating.

Even if it were so, simplistic comparisons get us absolutely nowhere as they show no true forecasting ability.

This poll pushes Trump to his all-time highs on both Pollster and RCP. His 'lets keep out the Muslims' thing is clearly a winner for the primary. Can't wait to see what he comes up with next.

sorry to interrupt the circle jerk but this poll is so junk the director of the poll is distancing himself from it https://twitter.com/PollsterPatrick/status/676449105095323648

He's not calling the poll "junk" or "distancing himself" from it.  He's pointing out that you can't assume individual states (which, especially in caucus states, have different turnout) will reflect national results.  That doesn't at all means there's anything "wrong" with the poll.

Yeah, with a margin of error of 5%, Trump's actual level of support could be as low as 36%! (or as high as 46%)
