I'd say 30-39% as many liberals that put principle over power will come out pretty strong for him.

10%-19%.  He's polling in the single digits as of right now.  Plus, he does'nt have any money to get his name and message out.

20-29%

Casey will do VERY WELL in the primaries iN NEPA & Western PA.  Pennacchio will do pretty well in the Philly area, but will suffer from not having the $$$ Casey does & the fact that many Dems just want to see Santorum to get the hell out of the Senate so they will vote for the guy who has a better chance of beating him

That will be coming soon. He might not have the establishment behind him but he will be able to raise some cash.

NARAL and Planned Parenthood will, without a doubt, give him serious cash. They're furious over this Casey thing. 30-35% might be pushing it for Chuck though. It wouldn't be that much of a surprise but I still don't see it happening.

I know we've had this conversation before but I'll ask again, Flyers. Is there any situation where you'd come out and support Pennachio. (None of this "If he turns into a Zell Miller" stuff either. Point out specifics.)

Casey must make sure he is comitted to putting down Bush's judicial nominees.  He should also be pretty consistent with my economic views and thusfar he is.  Like Brendan Boyle, I will let him slide on choice.  Both of whom support a woman's right if rape, incest, and life of mother so that's not TOO bad.  If he does in fact start acting like John Breaux or Zell Miller, I will be supporting Chuck Pennacchio.

sh**tty choice for me as well, but I'm thusfar supporting Casey.  At least we agree on economic stances.  Some people I know are HUGE Casey fans, but I'm not sharing their enthusiasm.  I'm more ABS if anything.  Can't wait to see Hoeffel vs. Toomey in 2010.  Then I can get excited.  I know Keystone Phil will flip, but I'd also love to see a Bill Coyne or Bob Brady vs. Toomey matchup.  Both are pro-choice Irish Catholics!  I maybe eyeing up a seat myself.  Who knows what that will be?  There is a conservative Democrat leaving his State House seat in 2006.  I hope someone more progressive succeds him, eh Phil!

Bob Brady is the biggest joke outside of Philadelphia. He's unknown in Washington and would be smashed in a Senate race.

Hoeffel vs. Toomey won't happen. It's going to be Schwartz. Hoeffel might run for her seat when she runs for Senate. That's his only way back into politics.

I have no idea what your political future has to do with this conversation. It's probably the biggest strecth from one topic to another that I've ever seen. Still, I'll comment. If there is a conservative Democrat leaving a State House seat, I'm doubting you would win. The district would have to be solid Dem for a liberal such as yourself to succeed a more conservative Democrat.

The district I'm referring to IS solid Dem and yes I could win that seat, but I'm probably not going to run.  Granted I wouldn't get 80%+ of the vote, but I'd probably win unless the GOPer was VERY well liked and populist-leaning a la John Taylor.

And what district is that? If you're talking about McGeehan's, you have proven to me that you're insane. It is in no way solid Dem and your social liberalism would really hurt you.

I don't know the exact stats, but McGeehan won with over 80+% of the vote and Kerry and Schwartz cruised there with well over 65%.  I'd win there easily unless it were a John Taylor type.  You know my social liberalism wouldn't be the basis of my campaign, but I would gladly mention that I am pro-choice.

McGeehan won with over 80% because no one even knew there was a Republican running and McGeehan is a popular figure. It has very little to do with his party. Kerry winning there is not shocking. I don't buy the Schwartz numbers.

You would not win. The GOP would make sure you didn't win. You're no McGeehan. You would, in no way, match his popularity.

Flyers wouldn't be running in 2006, Jake. McGeehan's running for Council in 2007 so it'll open up in 2008. The GOP is going to look at putting up a serious candidate there when it does and if you run, they will focus on that seat.

For some personal reasons I'm not going to divulge, I'm not running for the Democratic nomination for Pennsylvania's 173rd House District.  There I said it.  For one I have to carpetbag, second these seats are suited for "neighborhood" people.  I'm sure a Tacony/Holmesburg Civic Association or a big union guy will probably run, and third young candidates have little chance unless they're outright amazing people with good resumes.

It will happen before 2010. Arlen Specter is in Stage IV of his Hodgkin's Disease and doesn't have many more years to live. Don't be surprised if he retires his seat in 2006 or 2008.

God, please not 2006.  This board can only handle one Pennsylvania Senate race per election year! Tongue

If Specter was to resign right now, he'd probably be replaced with Barbara Hafer. She'd have to run in a Special election. If we have a Special election race for Senate this year, we'll be going crazy. If it is held in 2006, we might need a whole board just dedicated to this stuff.

Something is telling me it's going to happen this year. Ask Flyers how many times it's been noted that this year in our election calendar is always the quiet year. With a Specter resignation, everything would be turned upside down.
