If they do that, forget an independent run. They could be risking a whole new party, Front National style.

Maybe if America had a parliamentary system.

Isn't every primary suppose to lead to a brokered convention according to the media?

Ironic because Trump's plans would shred the constitution...

Donald Trump supports Roe v. Wade (or at least he used to).  I think there would be some resistance within the party if he sought their nomination.

I love how the main stream media can't bring themselves to admit the truth about Trump and the Republican base.  It is beginning to make a lot more sense to me how Hitler rose to power.  I've spent time in Germany and Austria and the people seem pretty sane.  But it is this type of ignoring and explaining away something really awful that lead two great countries to participate in something despicable.

There are many presidential systems that have multiparty systems. Heck, even the US has had a few big ones. Nothing is stopping Trump from doing so if he wanted to make a new party.

I think the Constitution Party cares more about being guaranteed >10% of the national popular vote than they do any policy quibbles.

I was wondering why the GOP decided to have another debate in February and then this whole thing came up, now it makes sense! Cheesy

Nate Silver says a brokered convention is more likely than a Trump nomination. What a f**king moron. God I hate him so much.

God speed.  As a non-Democrat and a non-racist, Trump winning the GOP nomination sounds horrible.

This article isn't about there not being a majority on the first ballot, though. It's saying that even if Trump goes into the convention as the clear presumptive nominee with a majority of delegates, the party will try to take him down.

In practice, it might be better to give him the nomination, quietly sabotage it and purge the party while focusing the money on downballot races than have a long embarrassing legal fight with Trump to get a Romney 2.0 on the debate while leaving Trumpism' to get even more angry and fervent.

In that case, it's the end of the GOP. Period.

Maybe Trump could win a lot of votes as an independent.  However, it would be very hard in the US to have three national major parties.

Yes, and it never happens because the modern primary system is designed specifically to avoid that outcome. But in all fairness, what has never happened before is a situation where it is the party establishment that's pushing for a brokered convention.
